I will look for Live Flesh at the cool DVD place.

Woody Allen is on my permanent boycott list, too.

Wow. I didn't know Woody was affiliated with Vicky Christina. They must be trying to hide it for obvious reasons. It's funny that so many well-respected actors still want to work with him.

I have not seen "Cholera". I like weird artsy-fartsy stuff sometimes (I'm one of those people who enjoys indie and commercial equally) but "Cholera" just never appealed to me. Maybe it was the title. I don't know. I've heard some good things.

Maybe I haven't been there mentally to see these movies. Like, there was a movie out many years ago called "Breaking the Waves" which I understand is completely brilliant. A couple of people who saw it said they were just REALLY affected by it. I know that for a movie like this I have to prepare myself to watch it. Maybe because I look at movies as a kind of escape is the reason I still haven't been able to bring myself to watch it. Perhaps this will be the year.

A movie that did affect me for days afterward is "Arlington Road" with Jeff Bridges. When you watch something that scary and that PLAUSIBLE it can scare the bejeezus outta you. I warned another girl who was going to see it that it would mess with her mind big time. She saw it and freaked out.

Now, both the title "Live Flesh" and Pedro Almodovar make me wanna see that movie. I'll look it up.

Oh, and something that blew me away when I first saw the previews of "Vicky Christina". When I first looked at Javier, I thought he was the guy who plays the father on Supernatural (he was also on Grey's Anatomy for a short time playing Izzie's fiance - he's actually coming back even though he's dead...hmmm...) Jeffrey Dean Morgan. People had said that JDM was the poor-man's Javier. Here's the comparison.

Found another one where JDM REALLY looks like Javier.

Whoa they really like alike. Big Time.

ANYTHING Almodovar does I love. Anything. That is how I first saw Javier. I remember when I read the Coens were going to cast him in No Country I thought, What??? But I guess that is why they are famous directors and I am not.

Yuh, but Jeffery is a kinda creepy mouth-breather.

ducking

**

I came upon Javier quite by accident in time when I was just downloading/renting various independent and foreign movies.

Came upon this one:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0369702/

where an injured middle aged man goes through some stuff. I thought Javier was around 60. And I thought it uncanny that they found a young man who resembled him so exactly!

Turns out, of course that Javier was really a young actor playing both ages.

His acting (and the make-up) in that one was so extraordinary I bought it completely.

frazz, do you know JDM personally or as an actor?

That's funny. Will check out the movies. Thanks for sharing!

Oh, there's another movie that affected me like for days. The premise will give most people the creeps. It's called "Mother". Daniel Craig is in it looking quite awesome, but OMG...the role.

It's amout this kind of frumpy mom who comes to visit her kids and she carries on an affair with the handyman? I am trying to remember. It was a long time ago. The handyman was Craig. Lord, the sex scenes are rough to watch. It's a movie that will make you squirm.

Arty indie film.

No, I do not know Jeffrey in real life, and have not heard any stories about him as a human. Juast going on Grey's Anatomy where he was supposed to be the hottest thing ever with Izzie and I found him exceedingly creepy.

After that I watched some of the Supernaturals online, and he was still doing the mouth-breathing thing.

This is not a deep rooted dislike, on my part. So I will give it up if it will make us more joyous!!

***

The Javier film (in American it is called something Like The Sea Within) is very low key, very talky, very slow. Sometimes I like such things, and I like this one, but it might put others to sleep.

From seeing Javier in American movies I will say that the quotes attributed to him on IMDB about the difference between saying "I love you" in American and Spanish are vast for him as an actor. I believe he is much better, as a pure artistic actor, when he speaks Spanish, however fun and cool he is in English.

Oh no. I was just curious. I know you tend to know a lot of people and I was curious if you got the creepy vibe from his acting or if you had met him in real life.

Sometimes his breathing bugs, but when he smiles, I think he's really sexy. Plus, I saw his bum in "P.S. I Love You" and I liked what I saw.

I will try to make it known from here on out when I know somebody personally enough for that to matter. If I don't say i do, I don't.

The weird dynamic that happened when I posted Jon Voight's insane rant about how Obama was going to destroy our children is the only time I remember initially posting something from a non-personal point of view and wound up in a crazy "who knows more inside info" deal up and feeling compelled to say I knew him.

I am not sure how I should have handled that one, but hopefully I can do better if it ever comes up again.

The one about Danielle Panabaker also took me by surprise.

Sometimes I don't remember that I actually know, or even sort of know, people until the more outrageous (pro or con) things get posted about them!

That is a truth about being a working non-star for many years. I do actually know lots of people, and have met many and witnessed many.

But I do not know Jeffrey. I had to think about it a bit to make sure I do not know him and do not know anyone who has talked to me about him before i would honestly state that I was speaking from a pure audience point of view!!

Ahhhh, the tough life of a peripheral player!

No worries. I forgot you watched Grey's and didn't think you would have had occassion to see Jeffrrey act. He's not a regular on any show and most people don't know who he is. I was surprised you knew him and just figured it must be because you knew him personally. I guess I do think you know everybody. I was ready to get all excited that you could give me some scoop on him. I do so love your stories and you tell them in a very colorful way.

I hope you don't stop telling us stuff you know from your experiences.

Because I live in L.A. and have worked on studio lots, I have seen some stars and talked to them and gotten to hear stories or see them personally and I have found out some naughty things about seemingly nice guys/gals and also found out some of the actors who seem to be decent folk, really are. So, someone will bring up the name of an actor or actress and I'll tell a story about them. Hey, everyone in L.A. has met an actor at one time or another.

It was always surprising to see who was a jerk and who was a decent human.

No way to tell from the public persona!

I do not have any insane assholes among my co-workers at my current job, but there sure were some at the art museum.

In show biz, obviously, the assholes tend to reveal themselves pretty quickly inside the job, if not off set.

Hopkins was the star of a play I had a very small role in (mainly I was there to understudy the leading lady). So I mostly just sat and watched as he interacted with the director and the rest of the cast.

Not a fun guy.

This does not surprise me. They are actors. I would think they would know how to appear to be nice for short periods of time. It's just another character. Heck, I would think that even the NICE people would have to put on a public face a little bit. I am a natural introvert; I could not imagine dealing with a bunch of strangers who know that much about me and want to talk to me without developing some kind of regular patter about what I was going to say to them and how much I was willing to reveal.

Because he's a real personal asshole or just because he's really obviously creepy in ways that the public can see?

I'm guessing the boycott is because of the marrying the daughter thing. I still can't believe he has a career after that.

I think Mr. Hopkins had a problem with the bottle, which probably didn't help.

I have met some really nice actors! I have seen Kevin Spacey right after he won his Oscar. Everyone and his brother was coming up to him and he was gracious. Jay Leno seems to live up to his nice guy reputation. Tim Daley was a doll and a half. Dustin Hoffman seems nice. I met the tall, handsome, blue-eyed Brendan Fraser and he was a total sweetie.

Tony Danza...oy. Kind of jerky and a sleazebag to boot. Helen Hunt - beeyotch. On the other hand, Paul Reiser is cool.

I think that there has to be somewhat of a public face, but you witness a person long enough and you get their true colors.

I just didn't want y'all to think that all the stars are only nice in interviews. There are some who seem to have their feet planted on the ground.
