Raines Recapped pt. 6

Again...just putting Green Eyez's great recap in normal font:

Raines is talking to two African-American guys. He says he guesses he can tell which one of them is Tre. He proceeds to tell the joke “what do you call a cow with no legs? Ground beef.” They both look stonily at him. He resorts to…wiggling those enormous ears of his. Of course they laugh and Tre is sporting some serious bling on his upper row of teeth, which leaves his speech pattern really f-d up. The other guy leaves. Tre tells Raines he’s kinda “out there” for a cop. Raines: you have no idea. Weeeee!

Raines throws out Jimmy’s name but Tre immediately says they had issues, but did not kill him. Raines suggests maybe one of his crew did it as a “message” to stop dealing on his turf. Tre asked why he would “cap him”. That Jimmy was the only one with “half a brain” because the rest of them were blazed 24/7. Raines brings up “Surfer”. Tre goes on to explain that Surfer is the “muscle”. That he isn’t “a man of respect”. Raines is skeptical that Tre would just let those guys deal dope in his neighborhood. That he didn’t get that bling by being “Mr. Charity”. Tre suggests Raines get a gold cap with a diamond bullet.

Raines: It’s on my Hanukkah list.

Raines wants Tre to convince him that he didn’t kill Jimmy. Tre says that he realized they were dealing on his block and went to Jimmy, because he seemed smart, and convinced him not to do it anymore. Tre smiles his very expensive smile and says “I used my words”. Raines wants to know if Jimmy just stopped. Tre says he guesses he used the right words. He asks how they paid off Sergei. Tre says he doesn’t know and if Raines doesn’t believe him, to go ask Jimmy’s girl. She was at “the sit-down”. Uh oh.

Raines goes running into his office and asks Nicole Sullivan(Carolyn) to track down Jolie (Jimmy’s GF) while he goes to pick up Jack.

Raines is with Jack at Jack’s house and they’re playing a fantasy card game that Jack is obviously very familiar with and Raines…not so much. Jack is trying to explain it to him. Raines shows Jack a one-handed shuffle, but Jack is unimpressed. Just as his mom is walking quietly in the door, Raines springs the whole therapist thing on Jack. He knows a smart lady who would help him feel better, because she makes a lot of people feel better. Jack asks if she made Raines feel better, and he says yes. Jack: You suck at lying. Mom comes into the room and Raines tells Jack he doesn’t know how to get him to do this, so how about if he just buys him something? Jack wants the cash. Smart kid. Mom comes up and hugs Jack who eventually leaves the room so mom can question Raines further about the therapist, but then his phone rings. It’s Carolyn telling him Jolie is in the interrogation room.

Raines explains to Jolie that if they don’t solve a crime within the first 48 hours, the chances of solving it go down by half and wonders why she didn’t tell them the truth. She explains that she didn’t want Raines to write him off as “some gangbanger who had it coming”. Apparently Jimmy had been in a gang since he was 12 because he said it made him feel like he belonged somewhere. He’d been a shot-Caller for a couple of years. He didn’t want it but it fell into his lap because “people just followed him.” Raines offers up that he wanted out of the gang life so he came to L.A. Really? I would think L.A. would be the LAST place to go to get away from gangs, but I guess Wally gave him some confidence and a positive role-model. Made him believe he had actual talent, so he stopped getting high and concentrated more on school.

The gang was so lost without him that they followed him to L.A. (wow are these guys LOSERS or WHAT?), even though Jimmy told them not to, but then Surfer got “the Russian guy” (Sergei) to front them the dope and Jimmy held onto it because he knew they were just gonna smoke it (hey! He was just holding it for a friend!) Raines offers up that Tre kinda stopped the business in its tracks and wants to know where he got the money to pay back Sergei, since it obviously wasn’t from selling the dope. Jolie claims she doesn’t know, but Raines stays on her back and says it may be what got him killed. She comes clean and says he had some comics worth a lot of money and he was going to sell one of them. He asks Jolie where he got the comics and Jimmy reappears to say that Raines doesn’t want to admit it, but he ripped off Wally. Still refusing to believe it, Raines questions Jolie about him only selling one, and asks where the rest of them are. Conveniently, she has them.
