Don't get me wrong...I like jewlery, but with my lifestyle I rarely go to fancy places and wind up in jeans most of the time. Diamonds just are not part of my everyday attire or lifestyle.

I know young gals getting married now expect to have 5-10 K platinum rings and big weddings. I never got into that or I should say, it did'nt happen in my life. Instead I got into horses, which is not cheap by any means.

I wonder if I got the ring appraised, then put it on Ebay...if that would be a good way to go. It is just a plain, solitaire diamond, not very big, but I bet it is worth at least 1,000. It is a nice stone. Of course I know selling it at a pawn shop or to trade in for another ring won't bring didley...but, maybe would bring 3-400 on Ebay. I bought my current "wedding" ring on Ebay for about 300.00. It is an early 1900 white gold filligree ring. Not anything flashy, but suits me and my lifestyle.

ETA: Thanks Frazz for solving the new thread caper...I am so clueless I did'nt even notice! affraid

I know what you mean. I love jewelry!! Big time! But I have a lot of really nice pieces from first hubby, hubby, dad and my mom gives me stuff when she tires of it. Plus some rings after she got arthritis and her knuckles got too big. Then there is all the "not expensive" stuff that I made myself. Like you I don't go out that much anymore where I need to where the expensive pieces. Usually weddings or when we went to downtown Chicago for Clay's Xmas concerts. Otherwise I pretty much wear the stuff I made. Working in daycare lends itself to jeans and sweaters and not fancy gems!

I would never sell anything from hubby or my folks, but I really would sell the diamond cocktail ring made from first wedding set. It wasn't a good marriage at all and it sure has no sentimental value. If I could get enough for a boy and girl BJD I would sell it in a heartbeat. But like you I am unsure of how to go about selling it. I have no clue how to sell on ebay and it is a size 4 because I used to have really tiny fingers. Now I wear it on my pinkie next to the set from my mom. I wonder how many people have fingers that small?

Anyway, I know I wouldn't get what it is really valued at if I sold it, but I would honestly be cool with that.

Luca, your wedding band sounds wonderful and beautiful! Perfect for your personality and lifestyle PLUS romantic and artistic like you and hubby! Sometimes your life seems like a fairytale! Horses, travel, married to an artist!

Believe it ain't no fairytale! lol! I can tell you stories about our hillbilly wedding that will make pee your pants! Here is a preview: the priest was drunk, my husband's cousin that sang opera (which I hate!) at our wedding dove into the food while the wedding party was out in front of the church so when we finished there were only a few crumbs left for the wedding party! And that was only the beginning! The best man split his pants, and my husband was so hung over from his bachelor party the night before I almost did'nt marry him! And of course there was no honeymoon, because I had to hock my grandmother's heirloom diamond ring to pay for the wedding...this is my second marriage you know. But, I paid for the first one myself too and it was nothing fancy. But, nicer than the second one!

And I could go on into the current time! But, alas I can't really complain! Hey, I am finally going to get my honeymoon right? Wink

Here is a ring similar to what I have...I think if you start the initial bids low enough and advertise it right, maybe I could get a few hundred out of it. I think I will go have it appraised this week. I had good luck selling my doll on Ebay, I think I may give it another shot.

Hi Janice!! Great to see you in here! I love you

Luca, I about died laughing at your wedding description! Laughing I can't believe that all happened. I do not picture you as "hillbilly" in any way! Beautiful, smart and classy.

Janice is right. You've earned this trip! This will more than make-up for not having a honeymoon years ago. I was a lucky girl and had two beautiful weddings, even though number 2 was on a smaller scale. My first was big, very elegant and perfect. The marriage however was not and only lasted 4 years. I feel bad when I think of the money my folks spent for the wedding that only lasted 4 years. Glad we have sons and only pay the bar bill and rehearsal dinner!

What size is the stone in your ring? Mine is 3/4 carat flawless with six smaller diamonds around it. God I can't believe I would really sell it for dolls Shocked Laughing I have fallen off the deep end! I can't wait to see how it works out for you!

Hope you all have a beautiful day!

Aerwin, I will gladly go through the WHOLE, gory wedding fiasco story with you from start to finish! I am glad I can laugh about it now and have others laugh along with me! Cool I will put something together later tonight! Wink I wonder where I should post it?

FC, my ring has a tiny, but quite nice diamond...I am thinking it is maybe a quarter ct. or so. I also have long, skinny fingers! I think my ring is a 4 or 5 too, but the setting is so plain, I would guess someone would be better off to just harvest the stone and have it made into what they want. If I can get a few hundred out of it, I am definitely getting my next boy BJD! The one I like in the picture is 199.00 and a new release that will be announced this week from Dollzone, but probably without a faceup or the outfit. So that will probably bring it up to closer to 300.00. Shocked

Luca I am dying to hear the whole wedding story! Maybe we can make a thread about "Funniest Life Stories" or something.

You should be able to get $300 for the stone. I am really thinking of going to the jeweler and seeing about this ring. I don't think I could get enough for it off of ebay. The main 3/4 stone was over $2000 when first hubby got it for me. Than the 6 smaller stone and the nice setting was $650. I thought two things; maybe the jeweler would like to buy the stones, or at least the main one. It is a flawless brilliant from Peacocks - the number 1 jeweler in downtown Chicago. So maybe they would want it and do something with it. I don't know, maybe they don't do that kind of thing. Maybe I will just have them make it larger to fit my right ring finger instead of my pinkie so that I could wear it more if they don't think I would have any success getting a good price for it. Since I know how much was paid for it, I would sure hate to sell it really cheap. I would be happy with about $1000 though.

Well, I just got off the phone with my Chase credit card dispute department. It has been over 30 days and still no little guitars Crying or Very sad So they credited my account and she explained that not only do they take the money away from the company that didn't send the merchandise, but they are charged a fee for not sending it out. YAY!! I started to actually hate the lying witch I have been talking to about the guitars!!

OOH!! This is the same account I just put the $100 on for Claire!! Now I feel like I only paid $66 for her since they just put a $34 credit on it! I feel so much better now!!

Dayum! That is one nice ring you have there! That one on Ebay went for 319.00. I bet I could only get 75.00 or 100 for mine, but we'll see what the appraiser says it is worth. It is not near as nice as the one that went for 300.00 though, so I am figuring maybe 100.00. I don't know how people can appraise things as being worth tons, but if you can't sell it for that, what good does it do? We'll see what they say. I have to pay 25.00 to get a verbal appraisal.

It is really easy to sell stuff on Ebay. It is quite user friendly and the charges are not too bad. It is really important to take really good photos and to write the ad similar to the way that gal wrote hers. Also, things sell much better when people think they are getting a steal so it is best to either do no reserve or a low reserve. But, it depends how much you think you want for the ring. If you have to have 1,000 for it, Ebay may not be the place to sell it. I really don't know where you go to sell
vintage, high quality pieces. Most jewelers would want to steal it for a few hundred, then mark it up sky high.

ETA: I just read your thoughts on what you might look into at the jewelers for the ring. It does'nt hurt to ask right? Wink

Well, sadly ebay has a TON of diamond rings right now! I wonder how long it would take to sell one.

When hubby got home I told him I was thinking of selling the ring to get two BJDs and he was all for it! He knows I don't wear the ring much and that it has zero sentimental value to me. Well, maybe I will see what I can do. I know a jeweler would want to pay me less than they could sell it for, but if I could get even $800 I would probably do it. Two dolls and a new light for over our kitchen island and I would be thrilled! Who would have ever thought I would prefer dolls to diamonds??? Shocked

Did you see the thread at PS with Uncanricky in other wigs? Boy she looks great in a black wig and in Crazzia's wig.

Yay! Hubby is supportive about the possiblility of selling the ring for dolls! We sure have some supportive hubbys don't we? I love you You better start window shopping just in case it turns out to be a go!

Here are two reputable US sellers of BJD's that gals at The Den of Angels have talked about. I bought some shoes and lashes from the gal at Denver doll and she was very nice and helpful.:

PostSubject: Re: Dolls   Dolls - Page 6 Icon_minitimeTue Oct 23, 2007 9:25 pm

Well, two things with hubby: 1) I think he thinks the doll thing with me is cute. He has known for 21 years that I love dolls and always wanted a nice collection. I think he is happy for me. 2) I don't think he ever really liked that I kept my engagement ring from first hubby. He would never say it, or tell me to get rid of it because he just is not like that. Also he knows I hardly ever wear it, where as he knows I will get much enjoyment from the dolls. Plus I am sure he is glad I am looking for ways to pay for them other than just buying them or asking him to buy them for me. If I knew where to go to sell it I would be there tomorrow.

However, instead tomorrow I have to take my dad to the ortho surgeon at 11:30, the eye doctor at 1:00 and the dermatologist at 2:25 Shocked Can you believe he made 3 doctor appointments in one day? This ought to be fun Rolling Eyes He gets so cranky when he has to wait for appointment in the waiting room. Just wait until he gets to do it 3 times tomorrow Evil or Very Mad He is going to be a bear by the time I get him home. BUT, no one else (doctor or nurses) can figure out the skin condition and the skin doc is in the same building as the eye doc. He is having trouble with the eye that has the implant. His vision has been very blurry lately. I am not sure what they can do about that. Perhaps make a contact. They will not do another implant now because of the diabetes. He had it done many, many years ago when he had cataracts.

I know after the appointments I will probably have to get him meds., assuming the skin doctor has any answers for this skin condition. So not likely I will get any time for "me" tomorrow. I have lots of kiddies on Thursday and Friday. I have Monday morning off so maybe I can do some checking around then or maybe get some info off the net.

I love Uncan's face and the fact that she can look so good light blonde all the way to black.

Thanks for the links. I had the Denver one already. I check it all the time to see what is new!

That totally makes sense! I think my hubby thinks it is cute too. Plus, he likes that I am being creative with the photography and likes to help with that. I'm sure he is glad for you to get rid of the ex's ring and bring in some cash to pay for the new ones!

Am I bad to be curious as hell if Hrr666 has been presented with her customdoll and the hundreds of dollars of clothes and accessories yet?
I think the birthday was this week. I just can't bring myself to ask Didi.
She did not make any comments about my latest photos of Tom and Bill on the Vespa which is really strange. Sometimes I just can't figure her out. But, whenever I doubt her, she always comes through in the end. So I guess she has her reasons! *shrugs*

Well, Aerwin and Janice, I think I will save my Hillbilly wedding recap for this weekend when I have plenty of time to think about all the crazy stuff that went down and to try to make it as funny as possible! Hope you join me in the new thread "Stranger than Fiction" that I will start then! Laughing

fc, I was wondering if the doctors considered whether your father's rash could be related to the diabetes and low blood sugar.

I would think the dermatologist could figure out the problem, whatever it may be, and help him. It has to be very uncomfortable to deal with.

Yes FC, May the force be with you tomorrow.

I am wondering if your Dad has some kind of syndrome like this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stevens-Johnson_syndrome

Not trying to play Doctor or anything, but I have seen patients in the hospital with this...it is not common, but there have been a few over the last 5 years that I remember.

Thanks ladies for any and all info.

Janice, the docs who have seen it don't think so. They say they have never seen anything like it. Neither have all the nurses. But I wonder since diabetes can cause skin issues. I would just think out of all the docs one of them would have figured that out.

Luca, the rash is not ulcerated or painful in anyway, so I do not think that it is Stevens-Johnson Syndrome.

It is large red and purple amoeba looking blobs that come and go. For the first time it is on his face - that started yesterday. I think it could be related to the diarrhea meds, as he cannot seem to get regular, and all the anti-diarrhea meds say they can cause rashes. Like I told my mom though, it doesn't really look like a rash the way one would think of a rash. To me it does look more like a disorder of some kind. I cannot find anything on the internet that looks like what he has. The doc we are seeing today has treated me for skin cancer and Eric's acne (btw Accutane is the most amazing thing ever for this problem as he has not had one single tiny pimple since he had his one time course of it over 3 years ago!!) He has a great reputation and the nurse who saw my dad on Monday said if anyone would know it would be him! So lets hope he doesn't scratch his head like the others scratch

Luca, you are not bad for wanting to know. It's only natural. You were a big part of the doll creation and you want to know how it went over. You wouldn't be human if you were not curious. Heck I'm curious and I wasn't any part of any of it! Razz

I've been checking Flickr and noticed she hadn't left I comment. I was amazed that I beat her to it since she always comments before I do. Maybe she is really busy this week or something. I plan to write to her soon as I have yet to tell her I bought another J-Doll Embarassed

Stranger than fiction is a perfect thread title! I don't think I will have any funny stories to add though. I will however enjoy reading others!!

Hope you all have an amazing day!!

Please God, let it rain in California today!!

True, I guess it is only natural. I still will not ask Didi...I just don't want any of them to know I give a rip! And I don't about them...just about Didi and the outcome of the doll fiasco. I really don't think the bitch is going to like it all that much. I'm sure she will put on a good squeefest for show, but I bet that roar will know that it really isn't her bag. I think the doll looks like Audrey Hepburn or something and is way too sophisticated for
Maj's taste. Sirenita has a certain style with her doll's that seem to go that
direction unless you give her a picture to go by. Anyhooo....yes, the showering of doll clothes, shoes, accesories, guitars, stuffed animals, etc.etc, ad nauseum is quite unbelievable and over the top. Typical. But, would only happen with her "chosen" one, BFF, etc which we were lucky enough to never be! tongue I'm glad to have no obligation to anyone there and have made a clean break on my terms. No loose ends, no regrets. Oh, and Didi did finally comment at PS. I guess somehow she missed seeing the photoshoot somehow. I should have known she would. Embarassed I guess I am a little gunshy after the treatment I got at
the See Old Bitches Squee Over Teens Palace. Shocked Laughing

Good luck with all the appointments with your Dad! Your mom is going with you too right?
