I understand Ricky Gervais got a nod for the Extras Finale episode so I suppose there is some justice.
That is one of the few nominations I agree with. Ricky Gervais is a brilliant british comedian. He co created and starred in the original show The Office. His new show Extras recently aired on HBO. It is about the trials and tribulations of an extra actor. Some big name celebs have roles on the show. do yorself a favor and rent it. The episode with Orlando Bloom is absolutely hysterical. And David Bowie is in one!

There are only about 6 or 7 episodes per season so it shouldn't be a problem getting an entire season. I'm pretty sure Season 1 is available on DVD, but I'm not sure about the second season.

That was the brilliant Tudor thing of my era.

Anybody seen that? (for all I know you have already talked about that here.. so forgive me my shoddy board research if that is the case.

I saw the Glenda Jackson Elizabeth I series when it first aired on PBS back in the early 1970's. IIRC, they ran it right after "The Six Wives of Henry VIII". She also played Elizabeth in the movie Mary, Queen of Scots which starred Vanessa Redgrave.

Speaking of Ricky Gervais, he got a mention in PAGE SIX Sunday. Don't worry, it's nothing scandalous or gossipy:

Quote :
Ricky Gervais has had it with online idiocy, reports The Post's Mandy Stadtmiller. At Madison Square Garden's packed show at the WaMu Theater the other night, he joked: "The Internet must be the greatest resource of information the world has ever seen. And the online encyclopedias that you can change? You can't do that in a library, can you? There's all those Web sites as well, it's clogged up with Web sites, Web sites about themselves. 'My name is Rupert, this is my cat, I love The Cure, good night.' What the [bleep] - who cares?"

In her first major acting role, British soul singer Joss Stone will play Henry VIII's fourth wife, Anne of Cleves, in Showtime's drama "The Tudors."

The gig will likely be a brief one, as Anne was married to Henry (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) for about six months.

A daughter of a German nobleman, Anne was betrothed to Henry in a marriage treaty between the Cleves Court and the king's chancellor after Henry was shown a portrait of her.

Upon Anne's arrival in England, Henry was disappointed in her looks and soon found a legal way to have the marriage annulled.

According to Showtime, the upcoming season of the racy royal drama will follow the king as he weds Jane Seymour (Anita Briem) and then Anne of Cleves.

Joss Stone is not exactly "homely" Razz Too bad I don't get Showtime, I would love to see her in the role!

They have a new actress playing Jane Seymour this year too. I think her name is Annabella or Annabelle Wallis.

Why did they change the actress? Joss Stone is nowhere near homely. They will have to put a ton of makeup on her.

I am still reading Plain Jane by Lauren Gardnier. It is interesting , because I never gave Jane much thought. It is fictional account of her life but I am really enjoying it. This author has one about Anne and Catherine also.

And from what I gather, JRM is slim as ever this year. So no fat Henry just yet even though historically he was fat and bald by the time he married Jane.

What's going to be interesting is how they do the first meeting between Anne of Cleves and Henry. You know in real life, when he found out she was in England he decided to surprise her by disguising himself and kissing her. But since real life Henry was fat and bald and not a gorgeous hunk like JRM, her reaction was pretty much "EWWW!" And, of course, we know that Henry was even less enamored of her. But like I said, you have a very handsome man like JRM and a beautiful young woman like Joss Stone so how exactly will they handle that?

To be fair, the pictures of thin Henry are all from his wedding to Jane Seymour, so maybe they will have tubby up a little after Jane's death.

Really... Shocked That kind of strikes me as odd JRM would'nt take the true artist test and gain 50 pounds for his craft like the real hardcore actors do...or at least don the padding to make it more historically correct. Really what is up with that...scratches head. Maybe JRM's ego andor they fear they will lose ratings from the drooling women audience. Rolling Eyes Shocked

And Joss Stone???? When did she start acting? And I am beginning to think they are not overly concerned about casting actors that physically resemble or are historically accurate as far as looks go..so I bet she will look smashing.

Joss always looks smashing IMHO!

Well, I don't blame JRM for not wanting to gain a lot of weight - trust me it can be hard to lose Mad But you would think they would do the padding to be historically accurate. Yeah, that would make a few women shed a some tears though. He is mighty fine looking Razz

I'm not sure if it's JRM who is reluctant to gain weight or wear a fat suit. It might be the producer's or director's vision or something. I read somewhere that someone involved with the show said that today's audiences would not accept a fat unattractive Henry VIII because we want to see beautiful people.

Max von Sydow Joins The Tudors

Source: Variety August 5, 2008

Max von Sydow has been added to the cast of "The Tudors" for the Showtime series' third season, reports Variety.

Von Sydow will play Cardinal Von Waldburg, a German-born clergyman who tries to organize the defeat of Henry VIII (played by Jonathan Rhys Meyers).

Von Sydow will be seen in four of the eight season-three episodes of "The Tudors." The third season premieres next year on Showtime.

Other recent additions to the series include British singer Joss Stone, who will play Henry VIII's fourth wife, Anne of Cleves.

The last two seasons there were 10 episodes per season. I don't know why the third season is to be shortened. Maybe it's because his marriages to Jane Seymour and Anne of Cleves didn't last very long.

I do think JRM should try to bulk up a little I mean he could use padding. But Henry's hair was golden red and his is very dark. I do think from what I can gather Henry was very handsome as young man.I guess in the end Anne of Cleves got the good end of the deal. He gave her lands and a nice home and she did live out the rest of her life happily.

Is she the only one out of the bunch that got a good deal? My memory seems to lean towards all his wives being either executed, dying, sent into exile, etc.

Part of me can't wait for when he finally gets a clue and gets a conscience, but that probably never happens does it? No

Well, Katharine Parr survived him and ended up marrying Jane Seymour's brother Thomas.

Luca, if you're talking historically, yes he eventually got a clue of sorts but who knows what's going to happen on the show?

Thomas Seymour was a pig however. He put the movies on a very young Elizabeth which caused her to be removed from her stepmother's home. Elizabeth was living with Katherine Parr after Henry's death.

By the way, the brother that's being shown on Season 2, is a different brother.

Ironically enough, Katharine died soon after giving birth to her and Thomas's daughter Mary. Despite being married 3 times before, she had never been pregnant.
