I am new to the whole message board phenomenon, but I've seen every single board I've been on, when there's more than one administrator, splinter off. I think that when you have more than one vision of what the board should be and that argument spills out onto the board, there are problems. When a board is started by rabid fans and some of them dislike any negative statements of any kind said about the artist, there are huge problems. Many times the official owner of the board gets drunk with power.

Those things don't happen here because the owner is not drunk with her own power and has created an atmosphere where we can express our opinions however we want to, we just can't be cruel to each other. There's not 12 administrators and moderators slashing and burning. There's just a bunch of women who come here to talk about whatever they want to and that's so cool.

It is WAY COOL!

Also this board works because it isn't in honor of any one artist. We all like different artists.

Our advantages:

1. We are small.
2. We were all invited to be here.
3. Most of us are veterans of crazy fan board wars and have learned to be weary of them.
4. We are here to chat on a message board. There are no power trips, no strong ego plays, and nobody is interested in besting or hurting anybody else.


Update on my mother: She came through the surgery after two hours and is now in the ICU department. She was asleep the last time I saw her. I am going back to the hospital in a few minutes.

Good news that your mom came through the surgery!! Let us know when she is out of ICU!

So well said! My hat is off to you. "The drunk with her own power" description of the power tripping fanboard or antifanboard owners/admins is just so on target for where I have come from on my message board journey. And this is entirely different, cool, and I truely appreciate it for what it is. Like Abrahammy said, us veterans of various fanboards eventually grew weary of the cruel and manipulative hierarchy.

Well, I think that many people on the board actually hand over that power to the owner. These people know they can say ANYTHING they want to without consequence. They can break their own rules, yell at people, be an asshole and nobody can do anything about it except leave. The thing is that most people...don't. The board mentality, or whatever, sort of takes over and has become so much a part of their lives, they can't leave. I remember at GS when the board owner at the time would just come on there and completely decimate anyone who didn't agree with her point of view. She lashed out in public at people she didn't like. Some people actually KISS UP to the owner, or cower and beg for forgiveness for daring to have an opinion that differs from theirs, further fueling their drunkenness.

Also, what y'all were saying about the DRAMA of it all. Some people dig that. Sometimes we get involved in it and it takes leaving to see what insanity it was.

If I'm brainwashed and under frazzle's spell, I don't mind. I think I kinda like it.

On another note, YAY Abrammy's mom!

here is a post made by a staff member to a man who was kind enough to take his time and furnish their site with info. He doesn't have to go to every fan site and make posts, but he did............ This fan board was thinking in the clouds that they were the official fan site.................

Hey Bond, if you didn't have Fortune448.com to recruit fans from, what would you do? I'm thinking that this board is saving you a shitload of money in advertising. How about raising our site banner on your site? Seems fair, doesn't it? The thing is, the Staff and alot of the members on this board and others have worked very hard over the last 2 and a half years promoting and supporting JD Fortune when nobody else believed in him. Cross promotion with fan sites is something we are building into the site. It's actually a lot of code and I am developing an extra area for FMO just specifically for fan sites starting with likely fortune448...code doesn't just write i tself though and it is unfortunately not a priority mod to the site as there are many features coming to the site before that.

There are many fan sites that will be listed and promoted on FMO including fan sites for George Canyon, Lennie Gallant, Slowcoaster, Bruce Guthro, and dozens more...not only JD.

I was asked to post news here to keep the readers informed. As a favor I agreed and have taken time out of my days to post here to keep you all in the loop and make it easier for you to read about Jay's solo efforts and the features of FMO.

I never realized I was 'shoving shit down your throats'...Additionally, the posts I make here are practically from Jay himself...as they are normally brief and to the point a bout a contest or similar. So apparently JD is shoving shit down your throats as Fibbers is his official site...I thought that his fans would want to be in the loop with the news of JD's official site so I was offering updates here...thats all...just bein g courteous.

Offering you tracks to listen to, contests, etc...this is shoving shit down your throats? We are giving away signed shirts in the upcoming week...is that shoving shit down your throats as well? I really don't get it...we're doing this all for you guys...Do you honestly think that I want to spend all my days posting on forums or making ads about contests? I am a programmer...I do all of that for you...there is a lot more to Fibbers than this...

Fibbers Music isn't just about Fortune's career, we are about promoting hundreds of new musicians from all over the world, starting wi th Pi ctou County, Nova Scotia...JD happens to be from here, and happens to be a good friend...so naturally he is a big supporter of the project, not to mention Fibbers is the official site for JD and will hopefully be considered the official site for many artists...

I am very surprised with this post...I certainly don't have to post news here about contests and such...and from now on I doubt I will. Wow, that was unbelievable what was said to that man Honestly, I didn't like that board when I was a member there. Rockband was even worse. Too bad. JD deserves than that and he hates when his fans don't get along.

Personal update - Mom is OUT OF ICU! She's in a regular bed. She's not allowed to eat, she's extremely sore, so she's hungry and very grumpy. But she's alive!

SO happy that your mom is doing better!! Hope her pain goes away soon and she gets to eat something yummy real soon!

Congrats Abrahammy! Out of the ICU is a huge positive step! Do you think maybe your Mom may make it home for the holidays?

Oh, I will not be surprised if she will be out of the hospital by next Friday. However, she's going to need help at home for some time; my father is going to be on point for her there, but I am a little worried because he's got severe back trouble and neither one of them can lift anything heavier than a baby. I am toying with the idea of declaring emergency family leave and heading over there to help.

Do they leave close to you? My folks are about 15 to 20 mins away so all 4 us take turns doing things for them. Thank God they are not too far away!

If you have the money, Abrahammy, hire a strong young man to go to your parents house for even just an hour a day to lift things (including mom into the bath).

I have a friend who did that for three weeks and it really helped all of them.

That's an idea, Frazzle. We will see - I went to see her today and she was doing REALLY well. She's up, walking around (slowly), singing Christmas Carols and making jokes.

Well that sounds like wonderful progress!! If she is singing she must be feeling really good! I'm so happy for you and your family! But hey, Frazz's idea of handsome, strong, young man to put one in the bathtub sounds good for any woman!!

I am tired. All this running around and getting ready for the Holidays and it is over in a few hours. When did start to be such a hassle??? And the pressure. I ended up being sick the whole weekend with a stomach virus so I lost two days. I could scream.
