| i am fascinated by The Next Best Thing, which has celebrity impersonators competing.
I do not know why, but I have also watched The Age of Love, which is really disgusting, with a repulsive man choosing between a bunch of disgusting 40 somethings and even more disgusting 20 somethings.
And, oh yeah, American Inventor. That one I actually full out enjoy when a contestant puts forth a good one, like a backless bra that holds up big boobs.

| I watched The Next best Thing a couple of times. My favorite is the Lucy lady. My fav reality show though is Top Chef on Bravo. Does anyone else watch? | |

| I caught it last week! That Lucy lady is freakin' AWESOME, followed by Tina Turner.
I do believe that Lucy is going to run away with the prize.
Age of Love. When that guy reacted to that woman being GASP *40*! I couldn't believe it and right then and there I decided he was a total ass.
On The Soup, they showed the 20-somethings laughing about how the 40-somethings are having symptoms of menopause and then Joel says, "yeah, good thing that's never happening to you!" and does this huge wicked laugh.
I loves me some Joel. | |

| I have not even heard of this show I will have to check it out. I saw a couple of clips from Paula's show and OMG! That woman needs help. What is going on with her? She says she never drinks or has ever been drunk and yet she seemed 3 sheets to the wind in every clip I saw. It is very sad And people are just filming her and going along with all of it. I wonder what she thinks when she watches the show. | |

| I am wondering how long it will be before we read some tragic headlines about Paula Abdul. This is becoming quite scary. | |

| Paula Abdul is like the new Anna Nicole. I think you're right Abrahammy.
With all the things people say about her, I don't know what she was thinking. Maybe she thought she could dispel some of the rumors by people seeing the "real her" but getting her out of the controlled AI environment, she's far worse.
It might not be booze. Could be pain pills and anorexia and a number of other things. She needs help, not a reality show. Just like Anna.

| I have not seen Paula's show, but did see two clips, the one where she is in a miserable state because she is "exhausted' and the one where she gets pissed at her assistants for not packing sweat pants for her to travel in.
The exhausted one really seemed like somebody whacked out on some sort of drugs.
And the sweat pants one just struck me as insane...not because she shouldn't be pissed if she had told the assistants to pack sweatpants (I'd be pissed if I had assistants and they gave me tight jeans for travel) but due to her bizarre whining and blaming about it. Suck it up, get pissed and be done with it! That she seems to think whining will be more sympathetic is what is insane.

| Some stuff from the recaplet of "Hey Paula" on TwoP:
You'll be happy to know that Paula Abdul has perfected the 48-hour day, something she calls "Paula Time!" Near as I can figure, that means doing normal amounts of things, but acting like they're super intense and terrifying, all the time. Like, tonight she's got the Grammys, and then a hop to Philly for her QVC jewelry show. Which is taking place like 24 hours later, at 1 AM the next night, but is still somehow a feat of death-defying agility. The way she describes all this is exhausting, yes, but then so is her habit of calling her dogs her "four furry kids."
She tells the camera about what a diva Daniel is, and whatever, but his face is so scary I can't even handle it! They do her makeup for three hours and then Paula apologizes to the housemaid for her dogs' dogshit, but blames it on her scary stylist guy. As in, she claims that her stylist has taken a dump in the yard. You know what's patronizing? Telling people who clean things how sorry you are that they have to clean things. "Sorry I think your job is demeaning!" I hate that. That's so Paula too, though.
The Bratz people call and piss her off in some way I don't understand, because she's the Camera Mumbler of all time. They ignored her fabulous designs, then fired their publicist, so now she is or is not involved in the costumes, or something. She and Daniel have this conversation about how they are "beating her down," but it's okay because she's "a warrior." From the ads, you'd think this part was crazy or cool, but you'd be wrong. She gives a speech about how tall she is, which is ironic because she is not that tall. So she's funny, in addition to being out of her damn mind.
What would make this show awesome is if Paula Abdul were crazy in a way that was interesting. What Paula Abdul is, is crazy in the same way that anybody at your job that you avoid because they're weird is crazy. Paula is cat calendar crazy. She's Lillian Vernon crazy. "My ex-husband was a bastard" crazy. She's "bitter about her parking space" crazy. That's not television, that's the Accounting bitches at your place of business, or that lady in Human Resources that won't quit talking about direct deposit every time you run into her. I don't want to watch them on TV either.
At the airport Paula throws a hissy because she has jeans and not sweats for the flight. A serious, long-term, Botoxy mumbling hissy. Then she fights the pants, and all the people in the limo watch her do this with a kind of laid-back horror.
These people abandoned her on the streets of Los Angeles for hours, wandering around in a Valentino gown, and she's pissed, because not only is she being forced to wear jeans, but they are also tight. "If I don't sleep on the flight, QVC is going to be a disaster." I'll say it again: "QVC is going to be a disaster." My emphasis. Also, she wants white tennis shoes and they brought black ones. Music as intense as a hostage situation plays while Paula goes through her luggage looking for white tennis shoes. This is the stupidest show I've ever seen. I swear this is the longest segment. She begs us for some sympathy, wondering if we could possibly sleep in "high-heeled boots and tight jeans." And to be honest, no, I could not do that. But I would never be in this situation, because I am not a lunatic.
Paula sees the "jewelry" she "designed" for the first time, and does not like it. I couldn't tell you why. I know why I don't like it, and the reason is that it looks like fake scary bling like you see at the gas station next to the herbal sex pills and the cigarette lighters with boobs that light up. But it's Paula, and you can't assume that's why: she takes issue with specific design elements of the trashy-looking crap. And you're thinking, "That could be absurd and fun to watch, no?" No. I want to be absolutely clear about that.
They sell some ugly jewelry and hug each other some more. Then there's another red-eye back to L.A. It's so boring I think maybe we missed a part or fell asleep or something because there's no way this could make it on the air like this, so clearly we've misplaced the part where actual shit actually happens. Paula praises her publicist for standing around doing nothing while her career takes a slow dive, and the assistants bitch and moan about something or another and fail to do anything to assist her in any aspect of her life, and they all drive back to the Philadelphia airport. Fascinating, no?

| I am in love with a ventriloquist: This was Terry Fator's first appearance on America's Got Talent.

Brilliant.
The rest of his performances have been fabulous, too.

| Did you know his aunt is married to Chris Sligh's uncle?
I really really hope he wins because he was the best tonight. I do like Butterscotch and Cas Healey though too. Not a big fan of the young country singer, Julienne Erwin but I knew she would make the finals. I have a feeling she is going to win.

I like Cas, too.
I hope Terry wins, but will be happy if Cas does. Butterscotch just doesn't float my boat, and Jullianne is just not good enough yet (I expect her to be fabulous in about 10 years if she keeps at it).

| I happened to watch that show tonight! I only caught it a few times. Clearly I have NO gaydar at all I never would have thought Terry was gay. What a small world indeed that he would be married to Chris's uncle! I think that Cas is OK, not as great as the judges make him out to be. I think Butterscotch could make it in today's music world. Jullianne is good, but like Frazz says needs some time yet. I would be happy if Terry won, I just don't know what kind of career he could have with that type of act. Vegas I guess? I also like the Glamazons! Fun ladies! | |

I think Terry is indeed straight, and married, to a woman, no less. It is his AUNT who is married to the uncle.

| When I saw your post, firecracker, I had to go back and make sure I had written what I thought I had! FWIW, I think he has said he'd like to headline a show in Vegas, so he'd probably be happy with that. I wasn't a big fan of the Glamazons. I get what they're about and as someone who's gone way way beyond a size 2 myself, I appreciate their attitude. But at the end of the day, I didn't think their act was very good. They looked fine but that only takes you so far. They'll do very well in cabaret, I think. I won't be surprised if either Cas or Butterscotch (more likely both) get signed to record deals. | |

| Oh boy, that is what I get for trying to read boards fast, early in the morning with no coffee Badger I see your point about the Glamazons. I know for me I just couldn't help rooting for them because of what they stood for. I am so tired of the pressures on women to be thin and perfect. I like it when someone who doesn't fit the stereotypical idea of the perfect woman makes it. I would be shocked of Butterscotch doesn't get a deal. Cas, probably a country label would go for him. | |

| You know Jaymes Foster executive produced the CD for the girl who won last year, Bianca Ryan. It didn't exactly fly off the shelves - I doubt if they expected it to - but I believe she's been touring with some other teen acts. I wasn't a fan - I rooted for The Millers - but I do think in a few years she will be very very good.
Too bad Leonid The Magnificent didn't make it in again. Not that he had any talent, but he sure was fun to look at!

| Poor Jaymes - always stuck doing covers CDs I thought Bianca had a great voice but when I saw the track list on her CD I put it right back on the shelf. I can only imagine how many people did that with Clay's CD. I hope that Bianca gets the chance to record a CD of originals when she is a little older. She has the goods. I have no idea who this Leonid is What did he do? | |

| On America's Got Talent, mostly his acts had technical glitches that ruined the act (harnesses that were supposed to raise him up that didn't raise, kinda things).
He is an odd, Fellini-esque persona, and I genuinely would love to see what he does when it works.
I really like odd, Fellini-esque personas.
If only I were a little less down to earth (by my own standards), I might just be one.

| Hi Frazz! I watched it last night and I thought about you when Terry won. I wanted to come here and post about it but I knew you probably didn't see it live and I didn't want to ruin your surprise. I was very happy for Terry. All of the 4 finalists had plenty of talent (though I wasn't all that nuts over Cas) and I am sure will have some success. Terry seems like such a sweetheart. How cool that they already got him a show in Vegas. Vegas really is the only place for him. I did feel bad for Butterscotch. She seems like a great girl and loads of talent. What a makeover! She looked so beautiful last night. Was the Hoff's performance suppose to be snark? Because I thought that was so OTT and so many bad notes. I just couldn't tell if he was trying to be great and thought he was great All I know is he made me cringe and I was embarrassed for him. Other than that it was a really fun and enjoyable show last night. Except I thought little Julianne sang rings around that Taylor Swift gal! | |

| firecracker, the song The Hoff sang is from a musical based on the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I think it's called Jekyll. Anyway, it's kind of the big number from the show and David was one of the people who has played the lead in it. Ironically, one of the contestants who made it to the top 35 but was ultimately rejected for the top 20 sang it as his audition. He was a lot better than David was last night! Yay for Terry winning! It's been so long since a reality show contestant I rooted for actually won. I liked Cas too and I can't imagine he won't get some sort of a record deal. | |

| The Hoff's singing was AWFUL.
Regarding the show itself, I think the fewer regular singers they have, the better. Novelty acts have no other showcase on TV, and some of the more interesting novelties got cut fairly early (lady spinning plates, magicians, performing cats) to keep some good but not remarkable singers on.
