| Like I said, that's why it cracks me up when Simon still throws a hizzy when it's even suggested that you miiiiiiiiiiiiight not have to win Idol to be successful. Like if he just keeps saying how important winning is, it'll make it so, even though it's been proven time and again that it just aint so.
They still want us to believe, despite everything, that this is a singing competition when it couldn't be farther from it. If it was, then they'd put singers on the panel and they'd be the only ones voting for the winner. That would be interesting. The top 12 being filled with actual singers.
I believe that people want to be the winner mainly for the competition aspect, but not for their careers. I always say the luckier people are the ones who don't win. I'm sure the pressure to be a cog in the AI machine is much bigger for the winner.

| With a 100 thousand trying out each year you cannot tell me that some fabulous singers are not let through. One of my son's friends went to Atl. to try out this year. He is a doll and has a fantastic voice. Last year when I heard him sing I told my son he sang better than any AI contestant last season. They told him that he was not what they were looking for. So it is not a singing competition it is an entertainment program. And I predict this years winner will fare no better than the past two.And NO it does not matter if you win. | |

| This is so so sad. I really liked this girl. She was one of my favorites. I'm linking because you must see the picture. I can't believe she's only 22. This girl has obviously been through a lot.
You'll notice one of the officers, who has an obviously Greek name, bore the brunt of her anger. Coincidence?

| I saw that yesterday I really like Jessica too. So sad. Yes, she looks terrible. She has a really good voice, or at least she did. What a shame she wasn't able to find any kind of success after the tour. | |

| CD sales info: - Quote :
- Jordin slides; Elliott gets a holiday gift
Jordin's self-titled album dropped 57% in its second week, according to Nielsen SoundScan, and falls from No. 10 to No. 18 on the Billboard chart. Given that holiday season tends to soften a lot of second-week sales declines, and that Jordin didn't sell all that much in her first week, this is not tremendously encouraging news. She sold 52,000 and her two-week total is 171,000.
Carrie remains top Idol on the chart, but drops 7-9 after selling 89,000, a 37% skid from the previous week. Her total is 1.16 million
Daughtry drops 33-37, falling 24% in sales to 33,000 for a total of 3.37 million.
Carrie's Some Hearts climbs 68-62 despite sliding 11% in sales to 18,000. (It was a slow week overall.) Her total is 6.06 million.
Elliott's contribution to Target's Sounds of the Season series jumps 170-79, selling 13,000, up about 83% for a total of 23,000.
And, continuing her on-and-off relationship with the chart, Kellie returns at No. 187, selling 5,300 (down 100 or so, but it was a lot easier to get on the chart this week) for a total of 665,000.
Off-the-chart Idols follow.
Ran through these faster than usual by necessity, so minor inconsistencies may crop up. But anyway...
The top-selling non-charting Idol album for the week was Clay's Christmas album, which accounted for 7,000 sales, up from 5,000 the previous week. SoundScan total is 1.3 million. Clay's A Thousand Different Ways sold 300, same as last week, and is at 520,000.
Elliott's secular album (I used to know a guy named Elliott Sekuler, apropos of absolutely nothing) sold about 5,000, same as last week, and hit the 450,000 mark.
Kelly's My December sold around 5,000, same as last week, for a total of 708,000. Breakaway sold 4,000, down precipitously from 10,000, and is a whisker shy of 5.90 million.
Bucky sold around 2,000, down from 2,600, and can now celebrate a 300,000 total.
Bo also sold 2,000, down from 2,400, and has reached 25,000 total.
Fantasia sold 1,300, down from 1,500, and is at 495,000.
Mandisa sold 900, down from 1,000, and has totaled about 59,000. Her Christmas EP sold 400, same as last week, for a total of 1,200.
Katharine is up to 600 sold from 500, totaling out at 361,000.
Taylor doubles his sales to 400, with a total of 697,000.
Kimberley's Christmas album sold 400, same as last week, for a total of 1,200. Her previous album sold 100, same as last week, and is sitting at 17,000.
Constantine sold 200, down from 300, for a total of 22,000.
Ruben and Paris each sold 100, same as last week. Ruben's total is 235,000; Paris' is 20,000.
Download stats coming soon.

| So, they're talking about the Jessica Sierra arrest today on Court TV. HOLY CRAP is she a mess. On top of everything else, they're about to release a porn tape of dear Ms. Sierra. This is not a good year for her.
She physically assaulted cops and from what they said, made racist comments, which surprises me, since if I remember correctly, she had pictures of of her boyfriend at the time on her myspace, and he was African American.
One of the things that was HYSTERICAL is that they were showing old footage of her when she was being interviewed on the red carpet (looking much healthier and happier) and there in the background? Yep. He was on the PHONE of course. On the red carpet. In front of the camera. He finally TURNS HIS BACK to the camera and continues his conversation in his signature stance. MAN was he waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay skinnier back then.

| Poor Jessica. What a shame. I heard she could get several years in jail. I didn't hear anything about a porn tape. Man, what a mess. I saw her in the court room with the dark hair and she looked like she had been living on the steets.
IDK, "he" looked pretty skinny when he was singing among the coat racks a few weeks ago.

| It's more than being contrite. I think Jessica must be deeply addicted - really, really messed up. I am very sorry to see this in ways that I wasn't sorry about Corey Clark. | |

| I just mean that when you go before the judge, if you admit you're a fuck-up and beg for mercy, especially if you're an addict, if you have a judge with a heart, they usually try to get you help and not jail. Just look at Robert Downey Jr.
In Jess' case, she has been very smug and that will just make them throw the book at her.
I agree this is WAY more upsetting than what happened to that ass Corey Clark.

| Downey went to jail for a long time...something like a year.
I really hope Jessica gets a whole lot of nurturing help. I think she is a damaged girl, addicted, but not a truly bad or crazy girl. I remember that she lost her mom during AI...I remember meeting her a few times and thinking she seemed real, but very young, and quite fearful.

| Frazz, Robert Downey Jr. didn't get time till he kept fucking up over and over and OVER again. The judge was lenient on him till he couldn't be lenient on him anymore.
Does anyone remember Boy George picking up trash? These celebrities cannot stay off of the booze.
Many of these reality show contestants don't realize how tiny their window of opportunity is until it's too late. They think they can coast on their name for a long long time.

| I could be complete wrong about her, but my take on Jessica is that she doesn't do her fucked up things from a feeling of entitlement, but more from a feeling of ...well..just plain lost and fuckedupedness.
Downey tried hard to be contrite, but I think the deal with real addicts who are not liars (like Downey) is that they know it would be a lie to be contrite.
The Charlie Sheens of the world get out of jail precisely because lying is Ok with them.

| Frazz, I was commenting on what Badger said about her manager taking all her money. I think wasn't thinking she felt entitled. I also think she was a bit stupid.
GB felt entitled.
Downey always seemed like a guy who couldn't help himself. I mean, when the judge just kept giving him chance after chance and he kept blowing it, I really felt bad for him. All he had to do was lay low, but he just couldn't do it.
Charlie Sheen is a charmer. I always steer clear of charmers.

| I would imagine GB still feels entitled and will until he goes to his grave. He was robbed of the AI crown, you know, because white bread "America voted for the "pretty" girl with the sweet smile." Too bad about Jessica...she could have had a decent career as a back-up singer or getting small gigs in Nashville or something. I never saw her as successful recording artist material, just someone who was talented enough to get on AI, get some exposure and maybe get some good gigs on the supper club circuit. | |

| I thought it was because America identified more with a fat guy from Cleveland and his Lunchbucket Joe parents than they did with a sophisticated New Yawker like Constantine.
I remember Carmen Rasmussen saying that she thought she would get a record contract fairly quickly because of the Idol connection and was shocked that it didn't happen. "I had a lot of growing up to do", she said.

Or that both of them sang really badly that week, but Scott's fans were scared and Constantine's fans were complacent. I KNOW there were people from GS who were so sure he was destined for F3 that they were thinking about whether they wanted to vote for Anthony Federov to save him instead of Scott. As for Constantine feeling entitled: well, he certainly did after AI, when all the media buzzed inflated his head so much, (and made us GSers so cocky) but if he hasn't come down to earth after that trip to the Stein Mart, nothing will make him do that. I know from their stage banter that he thought of it as a Spinal Tap moment; both he and Jim know that's the sign of a has-been.

Well, I would have thought the weenie festival appearance a year or so ago or whatever it was would have been the first spinal tap moment...but, I know there have been some legitimate reasons for hope of a career upswing with his recent soap appearances, his stage work, and his indie CD after that.

Yes, I do too. The writing on that soap is not good, but if he becomes a permanent regular on a soap opera, I don't have to worry about him at all anymore. And there will still be one-off concerts, and things like Greekfest. For all the man's considerable faults, I am kind of invested in him and I'd like for him to find a modest niche and settle there. And of the 8 times I've seen him live, I've really only not particularly enjoyed myself once, and that's because I was mad at him personally. Which is insane, really. It's insane to have a personal conflict with an American Idol contestant. It's insane that we've had an argument. He's supposed to be on the stage singing and I'm supposed to be in the audience listening and that's as far as it's supposed to go.

| I think that happens to everybody sometimes. I agree about how it should be between "AI Contestant and fan in audience". Con likes to get a wee bit too close to his fans. I love Clay dearly, but I have never and will never try to meet him. I like to keep my fantasies about him just as I have them. Wouldn't want to burst any of my bubbles finding out he isn't as perfect as I pretend he is | |
