He meant to write that he'd pee on her grave. Yes, delightful. But he had a fortunate/unfortunate typo and the rest is history.

I didn't remember to whom he wrote that; I didn't know it was "a conquest."

The only problem I've ever had with his fans is them believing, despite all evidence to the contrary, that he is:

1. A virgin
2. PERFECT

If you can see all his flaws and still enjoy him as a performer, hey, go for it.

Thank you.

He's a sexist.
He's a boor.
He's completely self-involved.
He's a poser.
He's incredibly self-conscious and it makes him artificial.
He has no impulse control.

And....

I went to a concert in October and a play in January and I had an absolutely fabulous time at both events. And I genuinely think he was REALLY good in Brel.

So this is best observed from a distance, IMHO.

Like, aerwin and green eyez, I also find him repulsive and an imbecile.

I won't deny he has some talent though-he has just never been as good as a few of the performances I saw on AI IMO. And hey if people are still entertained by him, I won't rain on your parade.

I'm sure there are artists I like that you all think suck. But, I also like it that we can have a few laughs about his foibles and agree to disagree about his entertainment value.

Yes! he would have fared much better if he didn't get so damn close to the fans.

ABSOLUTELY! Like I said, the only problem I have ever had with the RABID fans is that no matter how many FACTS were thrown at them, no matter how many times they heard he was an imbecile from people FROM THEIR OWN GROUP who were definitely not lying and weren't even saying they hated him, just that he was an ass to them, that they would throw rocks at that individual and call them liars and hold C up as some sort of beacon of goodness and light who must have had a REASON to call them all sorts of degrading and vile things.

Yes, the fandom has been more interesting to observe than he has been IMO! I guess some of this behavior exists in other fandoms as well. It just got really apparent and over the top in C's fandom because he is such a moody, unprofessional, stupid ass in the way he handles himself with fans.

Luca... honestly? It exists in EVERY fandom. ALL of them. I have seen people in the Soul Patrol so terrified that they might say something that Taylor might see and find offensive that they declared bad-mouthing Kat McPhee to be an offense punishable by suspension. I will not, for Firecracker's sake, go into the rabid insanity I've seen in the Clay fandom. It exists for politicians, for football teams, for all kinds of stuff.

I think the reason why C's had seemed so bad is really just because it's the one we were all so close to, and he made the mistake of having closer contact with his fans so we saw some of the stuff that celebrity handlers usually hide.

Fandom provokes insanity. Thus has it always been since the Beatles performed in arenas so overwhelmed with screams that they could not hear themselves play... and then a year later were subject to death threats and Beatle-record burning bonfires because John said he was bigger than Jesus.

EXACTLY! It's what I've said all along! He got too damn close. He read and believed everything written about him.

There's no other celebrity I know who goes trolling for fuck partners on fan websites. I mean, he could even place HIMSELF in danger! If *I* have his phone number, his PERSONAL number, you know he's just the biggest idiot on the planet.

I was on this other fansite and had to leave because you couldn't say anything about about anyone! It was a WWJD situation, I swear! Like "we don't want to say bad things about people. We want to be respectful like he is". Are you kidding me? He's a public person and if he disses people, it could be career suicide. I'm a fan on a message board. Gimme a break!

If you want to see crazy OTT fans you need look no further than Chicago sports fans. Really. The ballparks here can be just insane. We have male neighbors that have spent crazy amounts of money for good tix or tix out of state for playoff games. One neghbor spent thousands to go see the Sox win the World Series in Houston two years ago. I know that's a little different then what you are talking about, but the fights that break out at the parks etc. and the antic are Shocked Plus when I was little the whole Beatlemania was insane. My folks have friends who made yearly visits to Graceland on the ann. of Elvis's death, like many fans have done for decades. Look at the Deadheads and how the traveled the country following their band. Fanatics are nothing new to celebs. Did you ever see the footage of Valentino's funeral?? Claymates honestly did not start anything new. Only the internet fandom is relatively new.

I don't think we're saying that extreme fandom is anything new. What we're saying is that when you go on the internet and talk with grown women, and they have strict rules about not saying anything mean or could possibly maybe be construed as mildly insultig to a star who "may" read what you have written or you "may" be insulting someone who likes said person, well, then I think it's going too far and is quite frankly, censorship. When I get my post edited because I say something just barely mean about a singer's former band members, that's just wrong to me.

Insulting a fellow poster? Yes, I can understand how that should not be allowed because we are supposed to be respectful of each other, but talking about a public figure is totally and completely acceptable and when people set up a community about a public person and only allow you to say good things about them, you've got utopia, not a community of thinking people exchanging ideas.

Oh, yeah, and what Abrahammy said.

Oh, I agree with all that, just that I have been on boards with posters who think Claymates are the downfall of society and to blame for all the ills of fandom Rolling Eyes That bugs me. I agree that on the fanboards a poster should be able to say exactly what they think of the celeb and not worry about if they are reading. The bluelines were the reason I left GS. One of the Clay fanboards, it is called "The Clayboard", if you say you don't like his haircut there are some who get upset. WHAT IF HE READS THAT AND HIS FEELINGS ARE HURT!! SHOW US A PICTURE OF YOUR HAIR!!! Cracks me up sometimes. Then there is this whole back and forth on if it is OK to say you don't like his hair Razz

FC, I think the reason you're hearing more about the Claymates is because the "C" fandom has kind of become like Clay's fandom and so comparisons are made.

Also, his fandom basically made him and are a very large and vocal group. When you've got late night talk show hosts not only talking about the star, but his fans, and those fans collectively have a name, well there's bound to be a spotlight thrown in that direction. Also, when, like you said, they smack you upside the head if you say anything remotely mean about him, and again, those late night talk show hosts say things like "watch out. Those Claymates are gonna kill you" whenever someone says anything bad about him...well you know what I'm saying.

So, the Claymates have become as famous as the star himself and that's why they are probably used as an example of extreme fandom.

I want to say something. I have been involved with THe Cult fandom and Billy morrison's fandom for years. Nobody , ever ever has exhibited some of the delusional denial that is C's fandom. Honestly I've never seen anything like it.

I've said it once and I'll say it again: He got too damn close to his fans! Communicating with them on his fan boards, reading the fanfic (this has been CONFIRMED) and trolling for his next conquest on said fan boards. Most stars maintain a LOT of distance, because they know what happens if they don't. He has maintained no distance whatsoever.

Couple that with these women feeling like they made him and you've got the biggest recipe for disaster.

Yeah, WHY do fans/ex-fans have his personal phone number, his email address, his blackberry address, etc.? (Actually I think more EX-fans have his phone number.) Why do his fans talk to his publicist? His brother? His mother? His sister? His ex-girlfriend? Why do people know a list of whom he's been with? Why are there people who spend their days talking about him even though they HATE him and why did he stay in contact with them? Why are fans so hung up over every little thing he does, that HIS life is more important to them than their OWN. They don't even have a life - they just watch his....

It's the damndest thing. I can't really figure it out. If you all say it's almost all his fault, I wll have to agree.

Exactly. I definitely agree there certainly are many other fandoms out there where the line between being a fan and being obsessed is blurred. I don't think it is "normal" behavior when it becomes obsessive and some Yo-yo on some reality show's feelings are more important than people's family, friends, and the obsessed person lives in some kind of weird, perfect cyber- fantasy world with other true believers.

And as far as people being obsessed with hating someone that they use to fantasize about... it seems like just a way to continue their own celebrity in some way.

Bingo. That is exactly what happened.

I have absolutely not one shred of problem with people who are annoyed with Constantine. He can be a complete jackass. I do think the business of attacking his fans got badly out of hand, and making a hobby of hating him is just as crazy as centering a life around loving him.

Ya go see the concerts or ya don't. Ya watch the soap opera or ya don't. Anything else is kind of nutty.
