| FC, it's basically the same. TIVO is a service. I believe you buy the box and the service that goes with it. If you have satellite or something, this is what you'd use.
If you have cable (I have Time-Warner Cable) then you can rent a DV-R from them.
They do exactly the same thing, just different services.

| I know it is summer and TV show schedules are not what they would be fall-spring, but I'd love to know what network TV shows (scripted, not reality...network, not cable) you watched regularly during the "on" season that have not been canceled.
The ones I am up on currently are Heroes, Gray's Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, House, Brothers & Sisters, Law & Order SVU. I need to get caught up on a few more that are definitely going to be on for a while, so as to write some more spec scripts (samples that could be an episode, so as to get an agent, not so as to sell to the show.)
I tend not to watch sitcoms, but it would be good for me to start, if their are any that appeal to people here.

| Well for me: Grey's, Ugly Betty, Housewives, Brothers and Sisters, ER, Ghost Whisperer, Men In Trees (which is coming back in the fall).
Sitcoms: Two and A Half Men, How I Met Your Mother, New Adventures of Old Christine.
Other than those I watch a few on the CW.

| Thanks, FC! By the way, the CW counts as a network (you do not need cable to get it), so what you watch on that would be helpful, too. | |

| Well, sadly my fave Gilmore Girls is gone and I used to watch 7th Heaven (corny I know) but that is gone too. Shows that I watch on the CW that are coming back are Supernatural (when I can, not every week, but I think GE does) and One Tree Hill - yeah, I'm a sucker for teen angst I've never missed that one. | |

| Why FC, what would make you think I watch Supernatural every week? *whistles*
Frazz, all the ones you watch. Also, Shark (with James Woods) Jericho, Medium, Ghost (Breast) Whisperer, L&O CI, Numbers, Las Vegas (guilty pleasure), Criminal Minds,
Because other people recorded it where I dogsit, I got into "Bones".
Also, sometimes "The Unit"

| Excellent. Thanks, FC and GE!
I did try to watch CBS comedies tonight (How I met and Christine), and just couldn't relate, so on to the rest of the list.
I am determined to fall in love with a few, at least!

I am determined to fall in love with a few, at least! If you're looking for a comedy, I think you could have fun with 2 1/2 men. Also, and I don't watch it but you might find something there: Ugly Betty. Seems like it might be up your alley. Oh, I also forgot "without a trace" and "Cold Case". Yeah, I know, I need a hobby.

| Two and a half men has Charlie Sheen who is the devil. I think I really hate sitcoms, generally, even though I wish i didn't, since I really like comedy in general. I did look to see if Shark was available online, and they have one epidode. The girl who plays the daughter is in my acting class (and we did a scene and she is really lovely). I might try to see if she has some scripts I can look at.
I LOVE Ugly Betty...forgot to list that one.

| I agree Charlie is the devil! I didn't watch the show the first few years because of that, but my boys would howl with laughter watching it and my folks loved it, so I checked it out. It really is the funniest sitcom on the air right now!! Try to get past that it is Charlie. I hate to say it, but he is fantastic in the part. The whole cast is perfect. Sitcoms aren't my fave either. There was a time the only sitcom I watched was Friends (still miss it ) but I stuck on the Monday night CBS sitcoms to start watching 2 and a half men and ended up getting hooked on the 3 main Monday night CBS comedy shows! Those 3 are the only ones I watch. Though I have heard great things about the CW's Everybody hates Chris! So cool that you got to act with the girl on Shark. I will have to check out the show and see her! I have never watched it. Good luck with your writing endeavors! | |

| The only two sitcoms I watch are My Name Is Earl and The office. The Office is briiliant. I was really skeptical about it because I love the BBC version. My other fav shows are CSI, Heroes, Lost , House. For the summer I love The Closer with Kyra Sedgwick. I guess I like dramas better but if it is funny I'll watch. Comedy is HARD if you ask me. | |

| "The Closer" is excellent. Very popular right now.
FC, that's how I feel about Charlie Sheen as well. Yeah, reputation, but the role was made for him. I was also a huge Duckie fan, so, you know...
The one show I'm totally into which is completely creepy and like nothing that's ever been done before, is Showtime's "Dexter" about a serial killer who kills serial killers. In flashbacks, James Remar plays is dad. I love Remar.
Oh! Frazz! Tell that girl I loved her in "Mr. Brooks" OK? Speaking of that movie (and I know we're in the TV section) color me surprised and shocked at how much I LOVED Kevin Costner in that movie! Maybe because he was acting opposite William Hurt and it upped his game. Don't know...but REALLY good!
"The Office" is either a show you're a die-hard fan of and can quote every line, or it's not your thing. Weird, because it totally seems funny, I'm just completely not drawn to it at all.

*trying really hard not to draw parallels* Charlie Sheen seems to be quite the charmer. He's also a good-looking guy. My guess is he's pretty smart and hysterically funny. Plus, as FC said, really rich. I'm also guessing that when he decides he wants a woman, he's pretty relentless. So, while we may see "sleazebag" another woman might see "prince". The thing that puzzles me is, why doesn't he just go the George Clooney route? You know, put it out there that he's not into serious relationships? He'd still get dates. Why does he keep getting married? That is the mystery for me. Oh, I just heard Mandy Patinkin walked off of Criminal Minds. I love him, but he seems to be a major dickhead when he doesn't get his way. I think they wrote a bunch of scripts for the new season and walked out after a read-through. The producer is PISSED!

| I heard about Mandy last night. He pretty much walked off Chicago's Hope too. I've read he is difficult. He is a really good actor. I was sad when he left Chicago's Hope. Yes, Charlie seems to be a charmer and he is fairly good looking. Who knows why, but some people really just like to be married. Maybe he does fall deeply in love and thinks "this is the one". Then he just can't keep it in his pants anymore. AND maybe she thinks she can be the one to change him Honestly, I admire that Clooney has laid it on the line. I think every woman has been fairly warned - not the marrying kind!! NO KIDS! I know he was always adamant about "no kids". Too bad, he would have made some gorgeous babies!!! | |

| Yeah, I think this is Mandy's MO. I'm surprised they don't put it in his contract that he can't pull this shit. Of course, he'd probably never sign it then. Like the women, each show probably thinks it won't happen to them. Still, they've got Tom Gibson who's so totally awesome in it. He's a very interesting character.
I also admire George Clooney. I don't mind if a guy is a playa, as long as he lays it on the line and is honest about what he wants. If a woman decides to get involved with him, then it's her own fault. As long as he's not leading her on and making her think there's a possibility. I agree George would make some really purty babies. Glad Pitt procreated. With Jolie. That baby is going to be so beautiful! I'm hoping maybe George donates his sperm to some gay or lesbian couple, like Crosby did. That would be awesome!
Yeah, I love it when a woman thinks she can change a man. I always laugh when a guy says "she totally turned me around. She changed me!" No. I'm sure a lot of other really good women came along before that one. He just wasn't ready to change. Nobody can until they're ready in their own heart. Men do a great disservice to women by saying that, which gives women hope they can turn a cad into a prince, even if he's totally resistant. Nope. Willingness first. Change second.

| I saw the first preview of the stage production of Evita way back in the day. Patty Lupone was mesmerizing, but it was Mandy and his combo of manly appearance and unique high tenor singing voice that really blew me away. I had already heard (this was 1979 or 80) that he was kind of a moody jerk, but he has a talent so powerful on stage, that even I would hire him. On TV shows he is good enough, but not brilliant (at least for my taste), so unless he was going to sing I wouldn't hire him. | |

| Frazz, yeah, in regular TV roles, he's a bit too low-key for me. I agree that when he's singing, angels weep. He should probably just stick to stage acting. He doesn't tend to do well with TV shows, especially when he has no say in the direction it takes. I think he didn't like that Criminal Minds was getting much darker.
Personally, I think Thomas Gibson is far more mesmerizing on that show.

- Depp developing Dark Shadows movie
Johnny Depp's Infinitum-Nihil is teaming with Warner Bros. and Graham King's GK Films to develop a feature based on the 1960s supernatural soap opera Dark Shadows. The series featured vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts, and zombies. Depp has mentioned in interviews that he is obsessed with Dark Shadows and that when he was a kid he wanted to be Barnabas Collins, the vampire patriarch of the series, originally played by Jonathan Frid. The show continues to maintain a cult fan base with numerous TV revivals and movie adaptations attempted over the years, but none as high profile as a Depp/Warner pairing. (Variety)
