And that, my friend, is probably why he was eliminated. People seemed to find him either extremely endearing or extremely annoying. And yes, my guess is that the video - which I did not get to see, I was going to watch it after my family got done watching TV - was somehow in violation of the contract. - Quote :
Or maybe someone dropped out from the top 12 and he's in? Well, he'd have to be ready to perform tomorrow night when he just put the video up today. I think that's a bit of a tight deadline. I think my maternal instincts kicked in with this kid. I seem to like the weird ones on the outs. David Archeluta doesn't set off my mothering instinct in quite the same way. Maybe if Simon started being really mean to him. One more note: Danny will be a guest on Ellen on Wednesday. Gotta hand it to Ellen - she let Josiah on her show and he got a LOT of attention. Maybe she's trying to make lightning strike twice. Hee. Beloved by the lesbian daytime hostesses. Hey, work it, kid. Whatever works for you. Edited to add: The official pecking order is beginning to be codified by the press. Here's what to expect this year: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23561427/

| Speaking of Sanjaya, MTV spent a day with him which I think they're going to put on line. They did something similar with Bo and I believe Chris Daughtry after their seasons too. Anyway, Sanjaya was saying that he never got to show his real voice on AI because of the time constraints on the songs they sang. | |

| The time restraints didn't seem to be an issue for the contestants who could, you know, actually sing Now see, Sanjaya is one that bugged me I can't expain that any more than I can explain why I care so much about Danny Yay for the lesbians looking out! I wil have to try to catch Ellen tomorrow. I never watch it (even though I love her, I never get the chance) and see Danny. I wish I had know Josiah was on her show Lau, it took my mom a little time to start liking Danny. Than when he got the boot last week she was all upset. Who can explain why some people develope such a strong attachment for a contestant | |

Very good point, FC. That article abrahammy posted from msnbc is really good. It makes a lot of points that could be factors in the next few weeks of the competition.

| Here is another great read about the Top 12 and the party. Seems everyone loves David A.! Between DialIdol and all the polls (including the one attached to this story) have David A. so far in the lead it is unbelievable!

| I will have the show on tonight, but have business call expected that might make me miss most of it.
I only get attached to contestants I identify with. The artistic unique ones (might kinda suck at what they do, but they are unique) -- Sanjaya, for instance, and oddly, even Constantine, who I do think is an utter asshole, but I hope he finds a way to survive doing some sort of performing. I did not enjoy the singing of either of those two, but I do root for the unique ones to live. And that is where Danny, the utterly unique, comes in. He has more singing talent, but mostly it is that I want hi not to die of drugs or AIDS, and to have lots of personal supporters.
Josiah was too far gone already for me to identify. I hope I am wrong.

| I thought Chikezie and Brooke were easily the best tonight, followed by Carly, Jason and David C. My bottom 3 would be David Archuleta, Amanda and Kristy. My guess is that David A. has a large enough fanbase that he won't be anywhere near the bottom 3.
Here's what I think happened with David A. When he was on Star Search, he was a chubby little boy with a big big voice. Back then, doing the Stevie Wonder version of the song would have worked a treat but his voice has changed and I don't think he can do that any more.
When Simon said Jason sounded like someone singing and playing guitar in their bedroom, I know what he was talking about but I would say it sounded like a coffeehouse performance. When I was in college, every other weekend, we'd have these "coffeehouses" which were basically talent shows where anyone who wanted to could get up and perform. It could be anything from someone reciting their poetry, someone singing Broadway show tunes, another person singing a song they wrote, someone dancing, etc. I remember there were quite a few guys singing and playing the guitar.

| I hope you get to watch the show tonight Frazz. As a true Beatle fan I would like to hear your thoughts on the ones who totally changed up the songs. Obviously I LOVED what David Cook did with his song. Kristy Lee Cook? That was HORRIBLE! Poor David A. what a mess and I truly like the kid a lot. I thought Carly sounded simply amazing! Jason, wow, his voice is just so thin and weak It's a shame because he is so pretty! He just has that whole coffee house vibe though. Brooke - love her to pieces! I thought her performance was beautiful and her emotions so genuine and touching She is tied with Carly for my fave girl! Ramiele (sp?) has been so disappointing the last few weeks. She has that big ole voice and she just is not using it. I don't get it. She is adorable and talented and I fear she will not last if she doesn't start picking songs that show off her talent. Amanda? I really like rocker chicks, and I do like this girl, but along with Simon - I couldn't understand half of what she was singing. She's a kick though. Chickadee was super entertaining! Really enjoyed him a lot tonight! Good for him! Ayesa (sp?) is just forgettable to me. I think she is very pretty and sweet and does have a good voice, but for some reason I just cannot get excited about her. David H. - worst of the night for me. Worst than Kristy even because I know the boy can sing great and that whole performance was just one big for me. Not my fave performance by Michael Johns, but he is sexy and I do like his voice a lot. Just not a great song choice IMHO. But all and all, a pretty good night for the kids. The exchanges between Ryan and Simon though were darn right uncomfortable and Paula is just so......Paula Oh, Badger posted while I was typing and I see she gets the coffee house vibe from Jason too! Yes, David A. will be nowhere near the bottom 3. WAY too popular. I think that was the point Simon was trying to make after David Cook's performance "talent over popularity". I knew he meant David A. | |

I wasn't wowed, it was a'ight, I didn't know you'd be so dull here... Got to get you off of this stage...

If I fell in love with you, would you promise to be true, and try to... hit the high notes...you know, squarely.
COME TOGETHER! RIGHT NOW! To overpraise me...
All the tone-deaf people can't hear that I'm (REALLY) off key. All the lovely people, will still cast votes for me.
Let it be, vote for me, Let it be, vote for me. Reward my touching brilliance, let it be.
I Saw Him Stripping/Sucking There. (In the place where Danny should be.)
Amanda, You Can't Do That. I mean, really, you CAN'T.
Notes are flying out like overpracticed strands of all the years I've been a hack in smelly bars All through the Universe
Eight days a Week, I find this just embarrassing
Your time to sing is short, and there's no ti-i-i-ime For forgetting the lyrics, my boy. I know you're TCO, but even the Ju-uh-uh-uh-ges Heard this with little joy...

| Chikesie made me smile...He brought it and I have to say I am impressed. Very impressed. I would have liked what he did even better if he stayed in the Oh Lord where art thou vibe. Brooke showcased her talent and hit the notes. Michael...is reminding more and more of Constantine. So much better looking than GB, but not quite bringing it and I agree with Simon about still not quite reaching his expectations. He is pretty though. David A. should go, but won't. Anybody 17 or 70 who forgets a Beatles song lyric on national television at this level, just isn't ready yet and has committed a cardinal sing in my book. The Beatles catalog is practically sacred to me. I would also be happy if David H. goes...to quote Simon...Just ghastly !!!! | |

You did know you can purchase individual performances on iTunes? I have liked David Cook from his audition. I don't think he's HOT, but he's a great singer, and he did look good tonight. I wish Michael John's would just 'let go', I know he can belt out a song better than he's been doing. I also liked Amanda tonight and Jason. I've never been a Beatles fan, so this week was difficult for me because half the songs performed I didn't like to begin with. Here's a video of Michael Johns singing with a former band called The Rising..........now THIS is the kind of performance he has to show on Idol... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WquoHxNMo0Y&feature=related

| Oh yeah, David's performance tonight was one of the AI chokes of the century. I think most teenage boys just don't have the maturity to make it until the end, even if they have the talent. Girls just mature faster and seem to be able to handle the pressure of Idoldom better. Sky, I agree that if Michael can bring some of that intensity and edgy cool he has when performing with his band...that would be great. Thanks for bringing that over btw! I think some of these performers that are used to being with a rock band sometimes struggle to be able to showcase that when paired with the Idol band and arrangements... like Chris Daughtry. | |

| Hmmm. I am having an insomniac night due to financial and car troubles and spending the evening dealing with both, and should be sound asleep by now.
BUT, given that I am wide awake, here are my takes on a few of them based solely on the audios at rickey.org, (except for Amanda, where I saw it in real TV time) here are my ratings from "amazing" down to I"-do-not-remember" from the top down:
David Cook..Brilliant. Made a rendition of Eleanor Rigby that was really new and worthy. Brilliant. Nobody else came close to doing that. Worthy of going to a concert or festival to hear again, (though none of them achieved wanting to buy the audio, or pay to see alone in a large or more than $30 ticket venue).
Cheesy! Very worth listening to his rendition. Would be delighted if I was at a festival with multiple acts and that was done.
Brooke. I like her, and would be very happy for the rest of her and my life to hear at some concert or coffee house. I like her. Aside from AI, probably the one I would be most likely to go to a small venue to hear.
Carly: She is fabulous and if I needed somebody to sing a song that was close enough to a Grace Slick kinda singer for a movie or TV score, would pay top budget to get her, but I doubt I would pay money to see and hear her in a small venue.
Michael from Australia.. same note as Carly. Like him as a pro, and would hire for a score, but would not pay to see personally.
Jason: based only on "What a Day for a Daydream" a few weeks ago, I have faith that when he is 10 years older he will do shows I would pay to see in a small venue, especially if Brooke was in the same show. His taste for tonight and last week, is too wimpy for me now.
Amanda: at a bar, I'd still love her. Elsewhere, not.
The rest? Gone from my consciousness. Where is my nephew or son or adoptee Danny Noriega???? Gone, gone, gone..and he is likely the only one I will google periodically to see how he is doing. But I admit, I won't be likely to pay to hear him sing, small or large venue. If he comes up with some whole other sort of performance art, I would pay. (That would entail writing as well as performing, or a show like a combo of him, Rosey and Cindi Lauper..which may be a reality, if Rosey can get him on the full True Colors Tour other than the cruise:

| Oh Frazz, I am so happy that you enjoyed them as much as I did! Especially David Cook!!! and Brooke! My two faves at the moment! Sorry to see that Abrahammy didn't enjoy the show like I did. Your post was very cleaver but I didn't feel the same way at all about the performances, especially David Cook's. For me the vocals for a rock performance are just different than the vocals for pop. I'm not looking for a pretty or perfect voice in rock, just an awesome arrangement and great physical presence (and I don't mean that as good looking, but just the whole vibe) I thought David had both in spades tonight and he is currently by fave after "Hello" and last night. Sky, when I said he was hot I meant the whole performance was hot. He is sorta cute in an offbeat way, but I felt his whole "look" (wardrobe and style and presentation) were hot! Loved him! David A. - yep, my heart broke for him and I was stunned that it happened. He always seems so comfortable up there. Clearly the huge stage, the large audience the pressure of "Top 12" having to bring it every week big time, yada, yada, got to him. I think he choose that version because Simon told him last week he was getting "gloomy" with his choices and he wanted to show a different side. Perhaps he is not comfortable with those types of songs. As far as forgetting the lyrics to "a Beatles song"? I don't think it matters at all that it was a Beatles song. I was never a Beatles fan (I actually found a LOT of their stuff boring - don't hit me - liked The Stones and those types of groups soooo much better) so I couldn't sing a Beatles song all the way through to save my life. Neither could either of my boys who also couldn't care less about The Beatles. The Stones and Led Zeppelin - they could sing! I know for many it is hard to believe, but there are those of us out there who just don't have the same attachment to the Beatles. As solos I enjoyed George and actually did go see him in concert. Ringo was my second fave. I know Lennon (RIP) and McCartney are legends and Icons and all that, just not my cuppa, so I don't attach anymore significance to forgetting their lyrics than forgetting anybody else's lyrics. If the kid wasn't into The Beatles why would he know their songs? I never even heard the song Michael Johns sang before last night At this stage of the AI game you better not forget ANY lyrics - that is just a major no no in this competition That said, the kid is sooooo popular it didn't hurt him at all. He is so far ahead on DialIdol. The teen girls were dialing their little fingers to the bone for him. He will not hit the seal for a looooog time! | |
