| I saw that Frazz. Once again Brit Brit airing out her cooter for all the world to see. She knows darn well the paps are all over her right now and she is supposedly trying to get more visitation rights with her boys - so this is how she behaves And no, for the life of me I don't get this no panties thing. It just seems so unsanitary, for both the non-wearer and the people who sit down where she had sat. It creeps me out | |

| My guess is that she's slipping into mental illness or extreme addiction. This is not the way a rational person behaves. | |

| She did get some good news yesterday. The judge allowed her one overnight monitored visit with her sons per week. Apparently Brit showed up at court - this was a separate hearing from the one that she skipped because of the paparazzi - and behaved herself. | |

Since her drug tests came out clean, I'm going for full-on nervous breakdown.

- (FROM AP) - Sean Young, 48, has voluntarily entered rehab for alcohol abuse, according to a rep. The announcement comes on the heels of an outburst at Saturday night's Directors Guild Awards, which caused the actress to be escorted out of the event. ''Sean Young voluntarily admitted herself yesterday to a rehabilitation center for treatment related to alcoholism,'' a statement from Insignia PR said Tuesday. ''It is understood that Young has struggled against the disease for many years.''
At Saturday's DGA awards, Young was heard throughout the ballroom heckling director Julian Schnabel during his speech as a nominee for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. When Schnabel realized that it was Young heckling him, he suggested that she ''have another cocktail.'' The actress was subsequently removed from the venue.
Young became famous in the 1980s for movies like Stripes, Blade Runner, and No Way Out. But in recent years she's been better known for bizarre behavior, including dressing up in a homemade cat suit in an attempt to land the role of Catwoman in Batman Returns and trying to crash Vanity Fair's Oscar party in 2006. (AP) Hmmmm. Now here is my take on this. Unlike the badly behaved starlets of today, I think Sean Young is a genuine 'real" actor. I also think she has a true mental illness, diagnosis unknown. I am sure she was blasted the other night at the DGA awards, and maybe she is a chronic alcoholic...but even if that is not true, she behaves quite whackily and always has. I knew her at one point back in the old days. She makes me sad. If she had been a guy whe might well still be working. She really was that good. (Not necessarily in most of the mainstream movies, I am not that familiar with those). SO maybe I should say potentially that good.

| I always was fascinated with Sean Young's work. She definitely had it, and because of her issues subsequently lost it.
I agree that if she was a man with a substance abuse problem or mental health issue and part of the good old boys club, she would still be working.
I think she may have an anger management issue too which has made her blackballed for good. Being the crazy, difficut actress with the big mouth never goes over well. I do think the talented with mental health issues and addiction problems female actor combo still works in Hollywood though sometimes...eg. Anne Heche, Joan Crawford, Judy Garland. I know there are others, but they don't readily come to mind.
And yes GE, Brittney seems to have some major mental health issues. I think it must be closer to bipolar mania vs. just a depression crash.

| Anne Heche! Yes...how the hell does she keep working in the biz? I do not know her, but she sure seems obnoxious, and at least somewhat nuts, and not good enough to get away with it. And not sexy enough to be excused everything.
(For real, in Hollywood, the first thing agents talk about is the fuckability quotient of actresses).
I really would love to know how she stays "in". Maybe she is secretly related to somebody who runs Hollywood.
I do have to admit that I think she counts as being in the "real" actor category, even if I do not like her work.
Joan and Judy were before the shit hit the fan for women in Hollywood. I do believe it was Warner Brother's last year that decided to never make any more movies starring women in stories about the woman. I might have the wrong studio, though.
By the way, most of the female actors my age that I know from auditions (as in commercials or low level supporting roles) are married to directors or producers. THey are GOOD, so I am not knocking them, but out of all the good ones, ya gotta be related, or insane. If I go back, I will be in the insane category. WHich is OK by me. I just need to make more money outside the biz before I can really go back.

| If everybody wants to fuck them.
I wish I had a picture of Edgar Small the 80 year old agent who explained that to me when I was about 28.
I was fuckable. Holly Hunter was not, in his assessment. many years later I heard her talk about that...that she was not considered fuckable enough. I think that is why she really tries hard to be fuckable now (she beats me by miles now!).
Agents also give extra points to the ones that would be happy to fuck their way up, but that is a different scorecard.

But, I bet it gets hard because if you are too fuckable (aka Jessica Simpson) with no brain or acting chops to balance it out, you are just that. I bet you were the complex, talented, fuckable, and obviously smarter than the average bear, but just were not in the right place at the right time. Am I close? I have to say I can see why Holly Hunter was not considered fuckable enough. She always had that boyish, girl next door thing going on. I think she is much more fuckable now as a mature woman. She does have quite a figure going on these days...and like you said sure likes to show it! Guess, i can't blame her for that.

| I was horrified that these old geezers were hitting on me. I really did not know how to deal with it gracefully.
I desperately wanted not to be so fuckable. Plus I did not want to do nude scenes.
I did not feel powerful, I felt helpless. My inner self was not fuckable by that time, at all.
I would tell the producers and directors I was married, but my horror came out, regardless of my good official reason for being unavailable, and they got offended, because indeed I hated them for hitting on me..
It actually makes me queasy to remember, now that I am comfortably out of the arena.
I honestly do not know how a fuckable girl especially one who was perfectly comfortable fucking around in college...but I was MARRIED! and they were OLD AND CREEPY!!!! was supposed to behave with the Hollywood guys.
I still don't know how any of the fuckable ones who don't wanna fuck do it and still work.
I was actually told by one creep that if I fucked him he'd get me to the next level of getting the job.
WHen I said no, he called me several times (harassment) and said I'd "never work in this town."
Such a sordid cliche, but literally true.
I desperately wanted to meet the same age Meryl Streep (who was also fuckable at the time) to find out how she handled it.
I looked trashier than Meryl (genetics) but I really needed an advisor.
I did not have such an advisor, so I retreated to doing a zilllion plays in "Equity Waiver" theaters. If I could have lived on that, I would have been perfectly happy.

| I wish I had a dollar for every time the word "fuckable" was used on this page! Too bad all that crap happens to women in the work place It's terrible. I always liked Sean Young as an actress, but the stories of how very difficult she is goes all the way back to the very beginning of her career. Too bad she was never able to get things worked out in her life. She is very beautiful and talented. I wish her well. | |

It actually makes me queasy to remember, now that I am comfortably out of the arena. I don't blame you. It is disgusting to be treated like an object. Even if you are considered "hawt". And especially when you are trying to get a job based on your acting talent. That definitely would have driven me away from the business. Did the sexist, discriminating treatment you got diminish your creativity as an actor at all?

| Mostly it made me not want to keep trying to make it in TV and movies, and when I would get a Hollywood job (as opposed to my comfy small theaters) I had terrible anxiety because of it.
It also made me avoid Hollywood social gatherings which how you get at least half the work.

| It's funny, because I thought Sean Young did excellent work in "Cousins" but then I felt all her other performances were very wooden. In a scene where she was supposed to be confronting someone or grief-stricken, there would just be nothing there. A totally blank affect. I never understood it. Perhaps it's the fault of the director.
It totally didn't surprise me that she was nutty. I'm surprised it's taken this long for something really serious to happen.
Frazz, I don't know how you go into acting. You've gotta have such a thick skin for it. The politics are totally astounding.

| Theater is a completely different world, in human terms. I liked acting. I looked appropriate for Hollywood. It never dawned on me that the agents and producers would be so completely sleazy.
I like working "real" though, so film acting was what I really wanted to do. Small theaters were kinda like doing film. Large theaters (Broadway style) require a completely different approach.
To tell you the truth, until I started talking about all this here, I really wasn't aware of just how much bad effect the old power-mongering sleaze balls had on me.

| Frazz, I think you're right. What you needed was a mentor. Someone who had been in the business a while to help you navigate through it so those sleazeball guys would have been seen for what they were.
You've told me those stories, frazz, and they're frightening. I even used them in my script (which I'm re-writing to actually SHOW those things - I'll send you the re-write).
