| I think Clive is more likely to let you do your own thing if your sound is what is current on the radio. Chris Daughtry was pretty much allowed carte blanche on his CD, and supposedly he is going to let Blake Lewis do whatever he wants on his CD too. The problem for Bo -- and Clay -- is that their particular style is not popular on the radio right now. Bo may have a shot at country radio though.
So did we all watch "The Bold and The Beautiful" today? I didn't like the song much but I thought Constantine sounded good. On the other hand, I liked Elliott's song, but the guy is not a live performer yet.

| I watched the B&B Badger! I thought Con sounded really good, but I do not think that is a very good song for radio. I cannot imagine why it was chosen. I think Girl Like You would have a better chance at radio play. I guess Everybody Loves didn't do well? I know the video for that song only came out a few weeks ago, so if he is announcing a new single I guess he is already done promoting EL. I just kept waiting for Fading Into You to get better and then it was over. Just not an interesting song IMHO. My mom called afterward and said "Constantine has a nice face". She didn't say anything else so I guess she didn't care for the song either. I already know she hates the hair. I wish he would do something with it too. I think it was best during the AI audition.
I agree about Elliott. I LOVE that song (the whole CD actually) and I love his voice, but not a good live performer at all. The hair was distracting as it looked like it was swallowing his face and he just keeps doing the same arm movements over and over. I was not a fan of his during AI because I saw no appeal at all. It was when I heard his CD that I was able to truly appreciate his voice and I ordered the CD right away. I will be happy to listen to him anytime but I sure would not be compelled to see him in concert. Hopefully he will get better at live performances with time and experience. I just read that Elliott's CD was the most successful "indie" CD in Billboard history. Good for him!

| I think it's difficult to get good promotion unless you're with a major label or a well-known, well-respected indie label. If that's not the case for you, you just have to keep plugging along like Constantine is doing.
Elliott might be someone who's just more of a recording artist than he is a live act. Obviously, he could always get better though.

This would hold true normally for someone just starting out who nobody knew. With Clay and Bo, they got a lot of fans being a certain way, singing certain songs. So, it would be like your favorite rock band coming out with a country album. You'd be like "huh"? They had/have a huge following based on a certain type of music. They made it to F-2. Why do something so drastically different to turn off all the millions who voted for you? That seems counter-productive. It's also been proven not to work. When the Idols have stayed within their genre, it's worked out better. If Carrie had put out a total rock album, she would have tanked. She was a country girl and she put out exactly the kind of album people expected. Chris roots rock and roll guy. He put out a roots rock and roll album. Bingo. It's what the fans wanted. So, yeah, it would seem Clive isn't looking at the big picture.

| Exactly GE! Clive needs to retire or die Bo should have hired a hit-man to take him out before he forced him to record that CD! | |

| But TRT was a good CD. It just wasn't what we expected Bo would record. And Bo wasn't helped a lot by some of his own fans who insisted on telling everyone how awful the CD was and how much Bo hated it. The fact that Bo has always said he's proud of the CD even though it wasn't really "his" music kind of went over their heads.
Regarding Clive Davis, the fact is, if you're with a major label, sooner or later you're going to have a run-in with the suits.

| I'm sure that it is a good CD. Can't say I listened to it more than once, but it wasn't the right CD for Bo and Clive should have known that. I think Bo could have turned things around if he had been healthy and able to tour more showcasing all his talent and style. I am sure Bo is proud of the CD. Clay is proud of ATDW. Even if they were not the style they wanted to do, they put their all into the recording. They made the most of what they were given and they should be proud of that. I know that ATDW was the wrong choice for Clay, but I still love it because it is HIS voice and I love him singing anything. I'm sure Bo has many fans that feel that way. Yes, all artists will indeed butt heads with suits at some point. I just wish that it didn't have to come to an artist being forced to put his/her name on a CD that is not a reflection of who he/she is musically. Last night on the Teen Choice Awards Kelly Clarkson looked more like the pop princess she was during Breakaway. I wonder if Clive put her back in her box already | |

| Here's the thing also: It's known that the fans have to "suffer through" the first album put out by their favorite AI contestant. They know that the people who put out the album don't care about the artist, the genre or the fans who voted for them. What they care about is putting out the most commercial album possible. So, the artists are forced to go against what they love and sing what others want them to sing and some fans will buy it, but they don't really like it because it's not what the kind of CD they wanted their Idol to put out.
I mean, let's say you're a painter. You paint very raw, realistic paintings. Suddenly someone buys you because they love your work and know you have a really good following. So just as you're about to start painting, they say "listen, I want pretty watercolors. I want oceans and sunsets, and..." so, you totally know it's not what the people who buy your paintings want, but this guy owns you, so you paint the damn watercolors.
So, anyone can put out a commercially good album, but that's not what you wanted from the artist and they're not feeling it, so they're not at their best either. All in all, not good!

| If anyone would like to check out Fanty's Crib (which was featured on MTV) you can view the clips here. I must say Fanty is doing quite well for herself! An incredible home! Huge and tastefully decorated. http://www.thatgrapejuice.net/2007/08/fantasia-home-on-mtv-cribs.html Also, I doubt anyone here really cares, but you can listen to snippets of Carmen's new CD here. Carmen's new CD Now it is WAY too country for me, but damn the girl sounds great! I think if she gets any kind of descent promotion this could be a real hit for her. She is a close friend of Clay's so I gotta root for her! I just won't buy it though I do wish her well!

| I like Bo a lot . I think he is a TRUE rocker. when I heard him play Jimi Hendrix in concert I was truly blown away. However I was very disappointed in his cd. I did not feel that was in any way the true Bo. I really cannot wait for the next one . And from the snippets I've heard it sounds like it will be more him. Well you know how I feel about that crypt keeper Clive. I do not care how many hits he produces he can ruin many a good artist. He turns everyone into pop pablum. I despise it. I admire Kelly for trying to do something different. Not everyone wants or likes pop .
As far the other idols I will be very curious to see how this group fares. I feel that the market is over satuarated with former AI contestants at this point. I think we are oast the time where you will see another Kelly, Clay Or Daughtry. JMO.

| Just so ya know, long links blow out the whole page, thus causing old readers to have to scroll, using their poor old arthitic or carpel tunnelled hands.
Here is how to post any link that is wider than the posting text box:
Copy the address. Type a word like "LINK" or a phrase like "Carmen's New CD."
Highlight (select) the word or phrase. Click the button called "Link" above the typing area. That will put the link tags around the word.
Inside the opening tag, click after "url" and before the bracket.. Type = (equal sign). then paste the address in.
Here is what it will look like (except I am using curly brackets instead of regular brackets so it will show as text:
{url=http://www.longestlinkevermanifestedinthefreeorevennotsofreewoldor fields of goldStingspeakingofwhichneiloung.com}Carmen's New CD{/url}
If you happen to be the party responsible for such a deed, you might want go back and edit so as to practice your new linking skills.
The reason my example did not blow out the page is because it is not a real link.

| One time I tried to do that method, using the codes that TwoP has. On theirs you hit "link" and just paste the link. Then it asks for the words, and you just type in the words. So, I looked at the coding and copied it, but it didn't work here, so I just resigned myself to ugly links. Thanks for showing me how to do it here frazz! I will go fix the one I just did!
Oh, and I'm assuming Carmen went to a vocal coach and that "goat girl" is gone.

| Howdy everyone! I just have to pop in and share the news which has made me excited: Elliott Yamin is coming to my country this September to perform! Yay! I'm not a freak fan (like I was with Constantine) but I really liked Elliott during his time in AI and I'm sure going to watch his show when he comes here. The success this guy is enjoying is just unbelievable. He was not as hyped up as the others but look at him now. I visited his myspace and he really has a lot on his plate. | |

| Hi MM! So good to see you!! I read all about Elliott going to see you guys! I am happy for him too. He seems like a great guy and I love his CD! Now if only RCA would send Clay to Asia. He has a large fanbase there and fanclubs and websites, but no they don't send him. I don't get it. Anyway, I hope you get to go see Elliott and be sure to let us know how he did over there! I see he is going to London too. How nice for him and his fans. Must be great to have a label that supports and promotes him so well. | |

| OK, sky. Now, up to now I have liked JD well enough, but that pic actually made my body respond in ways I have been suppressing for a while.
I won't know for a while whether that is a good or bad thing.
Dang. I am going to try to sleep now.
I might have to try very hard to think of SHEEP.
p.s. FC? did I mention I had, in spite of my conviction that our dear Clay is gay, a rip roaring dream of hot heterosexual sex with CLAY at the height of my Constantine fandom? (The dream I had about Constantine was completely non-sexual: he kept takling and talking and talking and I told him he was boring the shit out of me with his Chatty Cathy-ness.
The meaning of any of this I have no clue.

| Most JD pix do things to women's bodies. He just can't help it! Frazz!! How cool about the Clay Sex Dream!! I think I've had one or two in the past 4 years I am not as sure as you that he is gay. Watching his concert banter vids he gets darn right frisky with Angela and Quiana! I just really don't know for sure. Funny about your Constantine dream Was this dream before or after the infamous lawyer romp? If after than I get why you dreamt he was boring | |

| I think I have contracted ADHD as I'm getting older. I opened this thread this morning to greet back Frazzle and FC and I got sidetracked and totally forgot to post a message. I think it's cuz of too much multitasking and so now, I cannot focus on doing just one thing at a time. The mechanics to watch Elliott Yamin's show is the same as that of Constantine's. I already inquired from the Customer Service people of Ayala-Cebu. Their promo for the show will start this coming Saturday. Wrt JD, I'm an official fan girl at INXS.com and I received a message saying they will send the fan club members another dvd. I hope it's better than the first much hyped dvd that turned out very short and unsatisfying. I also wish they'd let JD maintain a public journal there where he will post his thoughts and what not. Kirk's journal is so boring. JD is crazy enough to write interesting stuff that will be dissected by fans and haters alike. Good times. | |
