| It is interesting watching Biggest Loser because it inspires me and only listening to the AI vocals from the show (not pre-recorded audio) on rickey.org, which I did again tonight.
On rickey.org, I promised myself I would listen to at least 30 seconds of each of the performers.
Here is how long I lasted:
David Cook: 56 seconds. (I think it was the song..or the arrangement, or something, that made the effort fail. I do like him, but a whole 56 seconds bored the hell out of me) Jason:42 seconds. (and I only lasted that long because I like him. I really am not fond of his falsetto, to put it mildly, and am getting pissed -- I know it is irrational--that he doesn't try harder to do his hippie full voice thing that pleases me. WHERE IS THE CHICeeZIE FROM FIRST BEATLE'S WEEK????). What? Jason is not that Chickeeeezie? Damn. Brooke: 20 seconds, even though i tend to enjoy her. David A (forced myself): 18 seconds. Syesha: 14 seconds. Carly (!!!) 13 seconds. FUCK! I want her do do better! Kristy Lee Cook 3 seconds, but that is typical for my ability to listen to her.
In the seconds I could stand to listen to them (while simultaneously recognizing that they all sing better than any other group of top contestants ever) I wondered who really is in charge of the end result arrangements they do on this show?
I caught a clip of Michael johns after the boot on Access Hollywood or someplace, and he was infinitely more appealing than he ever was on AI.
Just 2 cents.
I blame the show, not the contestants, mostly.

| You really should try watching David C perform. So much of the appeal is in his presence and the way he delivers, the emotion he emotes. That is true for so many rockers. When I think of great rock frontmen a lot of them do not have particularly great voices, but they are messmerizing to watch perform. I sure don't think Mick Jagger is a great singer but I have seen him in concert a few times and he was so incredible! Same with Michael Jackson (I know he isn't rock) I saw him in concert with his brothers when they toured after Thriller and good lord what an amazing performer! David Cook has that "IT" when he performs that is really something. Also he held an amazing note toward the end of his song. Give the You Tube a hit Frazz and check him out. He also has a way of staring in the camera that just about knocks me to the floor Well, DI has Syesha last and Brooke second to last. I wonder which one will go home. I love that DC finished a nice little margin ahead of David A. Yes Sky, I am liking Jason more than David A. for two reasons. 1) he is different and unique to the show and David A. is more the typical AI contestant. 2) David A. is starting to bore me with such uninteresting performances. Beautiful voice for ballads - put I have Clay for that and he is soooo much better with a much more interesting style of singing and so much more personality. So while Jason is not the better singer of the two, he at least brings something different to the table each week and I actually watch him. I find myself reading the boards while David A. is singing. Not a sign of a good performer. With David C. my eyes are glued to the set and always have been. ETA: Here, watch this You Tube because this one shows DC in tears after the judges comments and you can see his proud brother and sister-in-law beaming! So touching! I love this man! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cw6S0RvXByw Because this is just too freaking CUTE! | |

| I watched these 4 on youtube: David Cook Brooke Carly Jason
Interesting to see that somebody seems to be encouraging them all to start songs low volume, breathy, week and not break into full voice until way late for my taste.
Brooke did not do that, but all the others did, whcih is why the audios stayed boring too long for me to wait until they actually started singing.
Interesting also to see that I expected brooke to be a disaster from the buzz I heard, but truthfully she is still the one who draws me in when I watch her.
David Cook was FABULOUS starting about half way through the song.
Carly has a genuinely great voice...Simon's evilness seems to have undermined her confidence so badly, though, that each week she seems less and less able to just sing the song...and more and more a private audition for Simon, fully expecting him to disapprove.
Now Jason. When I love him I love him. I really thought this one sucked, though. Breathy, whispery no power at all. Though I am glad other people liked it.

| I think Carly has a fantastic voice and this summer on the tour when she is out from under what I think are overly harsh criticisms and stress, her talents will be showcased. I will bet her voice is stellar in a live setting.
I liked all three guys this week. I know I'm in the minority here, but I like David A's performances. He looks so young, but his talent is far beyond his age and I think he will only get better. I prefer Jason and David C, but if I were a teen, I'd probably be rooting for David A.
I think Brooke may be the one in trouble this week, mainly due to song choice, but I hope I am wrong about that. Heroes is such a well known Mariah song and I don't think Booke changed the arrangement enough to separate herself from Mariah's original version.

| Ryan totally knows who's going home before-hand and there are dress rehearsals, etc. There's no way he doesn't know everything every step of the way.
Ryan made a big deal about saying the card was blank for the Reuben/Clay thing.
From TwoP. This is JoeR. FC, it's OK. He says some really nice stuff about DC.
Anyway, David Cook is next, and he "surprised" Mariah by choosing "Always Be My Baby." I'm not sure which Mariah Carey song would have been a better fit for David, so I don't know where the surprise comes from, but more importantly: "Always Be My Baby" is my sister's favorite Mariah song, I'm fairly certain, so Liz Reid, this portion of the recap goes out to you. David works the song out on his guitar, and Mariah can't help but trill along with it, which is kind of cool to see. Mariah's kind of psyched at the idea that someone else might be able to make a go with this song in a whole other style. I have to say I agree with her, because once again I find myself completely onboard with the whole David Cook thing. We've had our rough spots, but here I am again, putting down the remote and not typing anything and just enjoying the performance. As far as I know, this isn't an arrangement he cribbed off of anyone else, so I get to praise the arrangement here, which is of course bombastic and dramatic and has a great build to it. The judges, of course, think it's the bravest brave that ever braved, which we've already covered. Randy thinks he's the most album-ready of the bunch, which is true but which also reminds me of why I have to enjoy David while I can, while he's covering old songs in new and fun ways, because once he gets to make his very own Daughtry album, I'm going to lose interest, I think. Paula, in perhaps the best moment of the night, says she could see that song on a movie soundtrack right now. Which probably earned a whole lot of scoffing across the country, but from where I was sitting, a) yeah it could, and b) that would be fantastic. Ladies and gentlemen, your Love Theme From Iron Man. Simon begins his comment saying "It was like coming out of karaoke hell..." and of the course the dumbfuck audience starts booing because they don't understand things like context and tone of voice and logical progression of words and are too busy wondering where Barack Obama gets off being so elitist to hear what Simon's building to. But of course the payoff is that David broke free of that karaoke hell into the best performance of the night.
The crowd goes nuts and David ecstatic and he starts crying, which is a combination of a billion things including his brother being sick, and Ryan Seacrest being many things but not a dummy zeroes in on this as an excuse to touch David a whole heck of a lot. Having sufficiently choked up both contestant and recapper, we head into the final commercial break. Finally, we have Jason Castro. Our last chance for some blessed insanity. Instead, we get an unexpectedly very good performance. Nothing to freak out about, but not anything close to the disaster Jason singing Mariah could have been. "I Don't Want To Cry" is the song, and Jason is receptive to Mariah control-freaky "advice." With an army of acoustic guitars and bongos to keep Matthew McConaughey busy for an entire weekend, Jason manages to keep his innate goofiness at bay, which is how most of his good performances have gone. It's nothing I'm going to go back and listen to later, but in the context of this episode, it's one of my favorites. Randy "didn't get it," saying it sounded like freaky Hawaiian luau music. Paula is of course proud of everybody, including the pig roasting on the spit at this imaginary luau. Simon says he liked it, then says the boys totally mopped the floor with the girls tonight. And...yeah, they did.
Tomorrow: results and the likely return of the "choose which group is the bottom three and which is safe" gambit , which I'm guessing will fall to either Carly (for maximum freakout potential) or one of the Davids (for maximum pimpage potential). As for who's going home: Kristy Lee and Syesha won't be easy to remember to vote for, but I wouldn't be shocked at any of the women getting eliminated tonight.

| Thanks for bringing that over GE!! Love to see that a guy likes David C too! He did good. I like him better than Jacob. He isn't quite so nasty.
Janice, I really like Carly a lot and I think you are right. When she is free of Simon to just sing and not be judged she will do great on tour. I hope things work out well for her. She's a sweetie.
Just so you know Janice, I don't "dislike" David A. He just has gotten a bit boring song choice and performance wise - for most of us and a lot of other ladies on other boards. Everyone knows he has a beautiful voice and is a lovely young man. I think the problem is he just isn't really that exciting to watch perform. I know he will sound great on his CD (and you know he will be making one soon) but I do not see him as putting on a great show. You are a Clay fan and you know what kind of show he puts on. Even though he sings a lot of ballads and love songs he puts on one heck of a show and so much personality and humor. I don't think David has that - not yet anyway. I really think he should have waited a few more years and matured in his performance skills before trying out for AI. But, my guess is his dad encouraged him to try out now. Vocally he is ready. Stage presence and performance skills - not quite. I think it will come though. I bet he has it in him though.
Can't wait until tonight!

- Los Angeles (E! Online) - For American Idol, Sanjaya is the curse that keeps mucking things up.
Since the one who needs no last name was asked to turn in his mic last year, Tuesday's Idol has lost, on average, nearly 1.5 million viewers. Wednesday's Idol has shed nearly 3 million.
Last week, the curse seemed especially, if cruelly, effective, with Idol Gives Back, the franchise's charity fundraiser, drawing the least number of viewers for an Idol-related telecast in more than four years.
Notably, it was on the occasion of the first Idol Gives Back that the Sanjaya effect was first felt.
On April 18, 2007, the night the singing hairdo turned hot topic was voted off the show, the show averaged about 29 million viewers. One week later, on a Sanjaya-free April 25, the show was down 2 million viewers, despite the promise of the latest results and the lure of an all-star Idol Gives Back lineup.
In all, from the time Sanjaya left the show through the end of last season, Idol lost 1.7 million viewers on Tuesday, and 1.3 million on Wednesday.
In 2006, when Sanjaya's faux-hawk was not yet even a glint in some hairstylist's eye, Idol basically remained even on Tuesdays from mid-April through the end of the season, and grew by about a half-million viewers on Wednesdays.
To be sure, the Sanjaya curse has only been partly successful in blunting Idol. The show remains the No. 1—and No. 2—show in all of TV, and the latest Idol Gives Back telecast raised a reported $60 million.
The real Sanjaya, meanwhile, could probably use a reverse curse or something to jump-start his own career.
Now I hardly think we can blame Sanjaya can we?

| There is no way Sanjaya has anything to do with this season's ratings. All shows lose viewers after so many years. If so many millions were all about Sanjaya why has he not made a CD and sold millions? | |

| I think it is like anything that has been own a while. It is the same ol' every year. And to be honest last season was not the best. But I heard a rumor that Sanjaya was cut in Hollywood then the producers bright him back. I mean really he is the one people remember. CSI did beat the Thu. results show last week. To be fair I've listened on rickey and I do think this year has some good singers. But Nigel says EVERY YEAR these are the best so who believes him anymore. | |

| Aw, I love Simon some times - Quote :
Popwatch blog.
Then something happened that I've never seen before: David came off the stage and straight out into the audience, ignoring the clamoring "moshers" to make a beeline for his cancer-stricken brother, Adam, who was seated behind the judging platform. Massive hugging ensued. This was, even for me, a really kind of amazingly touching moment, despite the fact that I thought David was just hugging his mother and uncle or something until after the show when Rushfield informed me that I should really try reading the Internet every once in a while. The judges greeted Adam warmly, and the three also give David a few more props: Simon pointing fondly in his face as if to say, "You. You were... magical"; Paula hugging him; Randy clasping his shoulder very sincerely. ETA: BTW Frazz, thanks so much for watching David's performance! I'm glad you enjoyed the second half! SKY!! Help! I cannot find the studio recording for last night!!!

I mean, one of the funniest SNL skits EVER was the Sanjaya one. If you guy's haven't seen it, I'll bring it over.

| Yes, and Jason and DC just got put in two different groups. Kristy just got put next to DC. So they are going to try to make us believe that Jason got fewer votes than both Kristy AND either Brooke or Syesha. DialIdol says that's not only a lie, but a substantial lie. Jason was green. Ah, this is why I hate this show. I know he's not going home, but they really don't like the fact that he's gaining ground. Unless they want America to be horrified that Kristy Lee Cook did so well so they can finally dump her next week. Maybe they are putting Brooke in the high group so she won't faint. | |

| Maybe Kristy fans don't text vote.
At any rate, the little switcheroo with Syesha and David Cook DID do exactly what it was intended to do - it genuinely confused for a few minutes. So that means they know, and the audience knows, that Cookie and Jason were the most identifiably popular people in that scenario. Carly was not.
Archuleta, Cook, Hennesy and Castro - your Final Four, ladies. They just gave Michael's job to Jason.
